Thanks for those, i know that India and Russia are close, but tbh had no idea about South Africa, a
country i assumed was very west leaning.

Do we still make aid payments to India? If so, they cease with immediate effect. They obviously value Russia's assistance more than our generosity.

Neither countries are members. Sweden because of its neutrality, as you said.

Finland fought against the Soviets in WW2. Because, at the time, they were already trying to fight off a Soviet invasion in the late 30s. So officially the allies declared war on Finland in response. I think it’s the only time in history 2 democracies have ever declared war on one another?
Finland faced minor sanctions after the war. But I suspect this is probably why they weren’t invited to join NATO at the time.

If this were Wikipedia, you’d see a lot of [citation needed] next to most of what I’ve just written.
I'm pretty certain that wasn't the case , Churchill was close to declaring War against the Soviets over Finland ( should have over the invasion of Poland ) but not against the Finns .

The last aid payment to India I saw (a while ago now), we paid for community centres and their staffing in rural/poor areas that meant people could apply for state/federal benefits/grants/funds that politicians were holding back and using for their own purposes. It mightily pissed off those politicians. :ROFLMAO:

Bet they were gutted to only be creaming a few million off for themselves

This conflict has saved his job, he can lie as much as he wants now.
Unfortunately his usual style of over promise and under deliver, will almost certainly cost lives. Particularly among civilians and refugees relying on clarity for their next move. He’s really going to have to raise his entire game.
The interview he gave to the Ukrainian journalist yesterday, explaining why NATO couldn’t put in place a No Fly Zone, was the most honest response to a question I’ve ever seen him give. TBF, it was a response you’d expect from the most mediocre of any politician, but it was still a positive step up from the Johnson we’ve seen so far. It might turn out to be the wrong decision, but the point is, he gave what he believed to be the honest answer.

With the possible exception of some of the Cabinet ministers, he’s still one of the most unsuitable of our politicians we could have in the top job. But rightly or wrongly, he was in the chair when the music stopped, and attempts to oust him now would drive a coach and horses through the unity needed in Parliament at the moment.
I just hope if he recognises he’s not up to the job, he’ll step aside in the national interest.

It’s one of the lesser known elements of WW2.
Isolated, Finland turned to Germany for Arms. Although it had no fascist intentions, and it’s leaders didn’t commit any crimes against humanity. At the end of the War, the Finnish Prime Minister was sent to prison for 10 years by the international court.
I think Britain and America even conducted a small number of bombing raids over Finland. Presumably to stop trade with Germany.

The invasion of Finland was after Poland had been split by Nazis / Soviets so we shouldn't have been on either side .
I'm sure it was extremely close to Churchill declaring war on the Soviets over Scandinavia but trying to recall exactly why and when . If indeed not a memory trick !

Turned to Germany for arms, let them station troops there and were privy to Barbarossa, defo part of the Axis group
even though they had no fascist intentions as you pointed out.

I think they also fought, in large numbers, along side the Germans in operation Barbarossa. Repelling the Soviets being the priority.

630k troops apparently, no small number.

Even though he sounds a bit drunk in this one i think this guy is pretty good, comes across as being unbiased
and quotes his sources.

If you ever get really bored and have a spare 9 and a half hours his video on operation crusader is popcorn
worthy imo.

Ha ha. That might have to be a 2 parter.

I'm pretty sure you can't sell a frozen asset so I'm guessing Abramovich's assets haven’t been frozen. You have to ask 'why not?'.
It looks pretty likely Abromovich has done a deal with the UK government to sell some of his assets in exchange for giving away some, hence Chelsea sale to benefit Ukraine rebuild.

I also see Ukraine has received $9.5m worth of bitcin which alledgedly is being offered to Russian troops to white flag. White flagging worth $45,000 in cryptocurrency.
