National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

You'll note I didn't say she wasn't guilty, but she is innocent until proven guilty.

*you know I'm dyslexic as I've told you before. Picking on people with a disability is a hate crime but I won't tell anyone if you don't. 😉

Can`t say I noticed being told however I will apologise and also offer helpful support by suggesting a red line under a word indicates an incorrect spelling. :)

It's not an easy thing to do, but I'm swallowing my words - Brexit has created 10 posts, with the distinct possibility of another 10 later this year within my company. The only minor problem is that they are in Holland. We used to have an international distribution centre in the UK which worked very well. Unfortunately, shipping in manufactured goods, some of which will be shipped back into other parts of Europe is proving so onerous we've decided to knock that on the head.

These may well be teething problems but we simply can't afford to suck-it and see. Along with many other UK companies opening a previously unforseen European hub is the only option we have when dealing with out biggest trading partner. Just saying.

Sorry, I didn't mean to perpetuate that. Nor will I mention that jobs that will inevitably be lost in the UK, especially as the world will be queuing up to do business with us.....via Holland.

I took delivery of a box of trade samples from Germany today - what used to be an easy process has now become incredibly convoluted, with about 3 extra stages of clearance, notification, etc. As an aside, I buy and sell vinyl as a sideline (and interest) and I've given up sending and ordering for now, particularly after the £35 of excess custom charges incurred in January. I'm largely dealing with individual sellers and buyers and they just aren't informed or bothered about new requirements.

top fella @Big Ron :)

I stopped buying records direct from USA when the postage charges rocketed & around the same time Royal Mail was privatised , which led to customs charges as well as Royal Mail handling charges being added on top

Buying from European sources wasn't subjected to the same customs (& addiditional Royal Mail handling) charges

Since Dec 31st - Ive bought one record from an EU country, private seller, it was relatively cheap (20 euro) which I bought to see if the incoming customs tariffs etc (& inevitable Royal Mail handling charges) would be applied . I was pleasantly surprised when said record eventually arrived ( it took over double the time to arrive from Spain than it would have pre 31 Dec though)

In the main my intention is, where ever possible to satisfy my (rare soul/ funk) vinyl addiction from record dealers and private sellers in the UK.... I am aware of the possible/ probable additional charges if I do buy from outside of the UK. Sadly is made finding a gem for little money even harder than previously

Agree Sarge - I have had a couple of things arrive with no problems if, as you say, slower in arriving. The £35 surcharges wrote off anything I’d made on the transactions (needless to say I don’t do this for a living!).

Like you, I’ll stick largely to the UK for the time being - Discogs, EIL, eBay, dealers and charity, 2nd hand record stores and record fairs, when they reopen.

I have pretty wide tastes but lots of 70s reggae, 76-79 punk & new wave and a large dash of 60s/70s singer-songwriters, oh, a smattering of jazz.

I'm (vaguely) planning a cull, of non rare soul/ funk vinyl in the not too distant

there may some in there of interest to you? - I'll let you you know when I do get cracking with said cull

Happy to have a look Sarge! You can never have too much vinyl !

We have a couple of old jukeboxes so that's my excuse. Although the record buying long ago outstripped any possible use for them - if I changed all the records in both jukeboxes every month, I've probably got more than enough records to see me out!

No it is an obvious reality. No new European distribution centre will choose a non EU country and many already based in the UK will inevitably move. It was projected as fear at the Brexit vote. Looks like it was just a very likely outcome.
But if you lose your job because of it I'm sure the Tory party will make sure you are well and truly stuffed.

Judging by @Marked Ox posts on this subject over the last few years, I very much think he was being sarcastic.

Whilst we're talking about Project Fear, isn't it fascinating that those who told us concerns over the impact of Brexit were just Project Fear, are the very same people who are now saying that Project Fear will become a reality for Scotland if they ever get independence
