Matches Top 6 Race 2023/24

So Karl Robinson, a good manager, gets a squad to finish 19th.

You then expect (largely - due to long contracts) the same squad to get promoted the following season?

Same squad ? We signed 8 and 5 or 6 of those started the first game of the season at Cambridge. I can't remember exactly but we must have shipped out 8 too, that's a 16 man turnaround from the squad Robinson had. What are you talking about ? You - and others - are choosing to focus on one or two long contract players (notably Henry and Browne) who have been on the fringes, due to form and injury or a combination of both, for a while now. None of our last three managers have relied on them too much. Robinsons personal life undoubtedly interfered on his professional life but things happen in peoples lives - he didn't murder anyone, his marriage broke down. It should have probably been dealt with earlier and better but with this 16 man turnaround I mention, I don't buy the idiotic notion that Karl Robinson is the reason we fell off a cliff 8 months - and two managers - after he's departed.

Isn't it just slightly mental describing a team currently in 6th and at least notionally, with our fate in our own hands, as having 'fallen off a cliff'? You really do need to get another hobby.

You'd think we were fighting off relegation (again) from reading your posts.

'Fallen off a cliff' as in slipped from 2nd to desperately clinging on to a play off berth 4 months later.

Ha ha ha! What use is turnaround in that context?

You might decide to class 1 in/1 out as a 2-man turnaround, but as far as a football team is concerned, it's a single option.

5 started v Cambridge. We lost. This number had dropped further by the time we managed to win a game vs Carlisle.

And finally, if you're going to tell me what I think*, please make the effort to be even vaguely correct about it: I think that the squad we have, although talented, contains too many inconsistent players. Specifically, too many players who don't/can't/won't do it over a whole season. It has very little to do with James Henry's contract.

*for somebody who spends as much time doing this as you do, you're remarkably poor at it.

Unsure what you're rabbiting on about.

Suggests to me that you've never fallen off a cliff 😁

Did I read somewhere that we have halved our output, across the board, in this period? If you reduce anything by 50% it's one hell of a shift. Maybe not quite falling off a cliff but you're halfway down it, hanging on by your finger tips.

Oh I see! I think most normal people probably wouldn't see that as falling off a cliff. No doubt you're already back tracking on that patently ridiculous comment.

Edit: sorry, I was tying and hadn't noticed you 'refining' your comment.

Anyway, after the weekend we can see that it is now in our own hands to stay in the play-offs.
Will become clearer after the Easter fixtures.
Particularly Good Friday
Lincoln - Orient : Draw or away win please
Stevenage - Bolton : Away win please
Derby - Blackpool : Home win please

I think Lincoln will probably win their game, so we will need to beat Shrewsbury due to Lincoln's superior GD, if we want to stay 6th.

My word you’re getting boring now.
@Scotchegg never said we were going to be there to make up the numbers.
If we finish 6th then we will be classed as the weakest team in the play offs and will have to play the best team out of the play off group over 2 legs.
If we come up short because we got beaten by the better team then that’s football. A bit like when we played Blackpool in the play offs and clearly weren’t good enough to go up.
If we go out of the play offs after not performing how we should then that would be a failure, like the way we lost to Wycombe in the Covid final.

It is ridiculous to suggest that just by making the play offs then we must win them.
Exactly this and so as neither Blackpool nor Whycome could sustain a stay in the Championship whereas Coventry have made the best of it and beat us in the paint pot when they seemed to be down and out.

Blimey! You are well informed. If I was that interested I might have been bothered and kept up. I could not care less who Karl Robinson is in a relationship with! It's his life, he can do what the hell he likes! How do you know what problems led to this obvious breakdown and him beginning a new relationship? You have no idea, absolute none, just like the rest of us.

He did a decent job until his last year where those personal relationships set back the club to the point we needed a complete rebuild, one that we are still going through.
The point being that the issues we are led to believe were on the club's time, premises and against all reasonable procedures so it did matter but on pitch stuff finally threw the baby out with the dishwater.

You have no idea what Des is like as a person, don’t have a clue what it has been like moving back to this country, what he has had to deal with behind the scenes with staffing and players and yet you are more than happy to constantly have a pop at him.

I know you like to think you are always right but have you not started to notice that your opinion is very much different to 99% of the rest of this forum?
