Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

the iFollow interview with Des today is great viewing if no one has seen it
Thanks for the heads-up. Excellent on Northampton, Luke Taylor and his team and how it can improve player fitness, recruitment. club culture getting strucutures and processes right. Worlds away from Robinson.

Worth watching the interview with Luke Taylor too

Totally agree he's been let down by players, the managerial skill set is to stop it happening. You stop putting players in positions they are not comfortable in, you adapt and evolve. The definition of insanity is to continue doing something that is not working and expect it to work.
Some are actually talking about sacking him, I take that with a pinch of salt but that camp is already out there.

Considering some of the comments on here, some in that camp were already out there before he even took control of a game.

He claims he’s not Des out but is Des out in the poll. So there’s another example.

On the one hand you feel inclined for us all to just agree to ignore his posts, but at the same time everyone has a right to their opinion
But when its inconsistent and some of it laughably spurious it’s hard to listen to, let alone respond to.
And we gotta put up with at least another 2 months of it.
Just simply click 'ignore' on his profile.

Just read the article in the mail where Des things 75 points is what we need ,18 more points our form at the minute won't get that .We need a win saturday then we have 3 really tough games coming up where I can only see 1 point coming .

Also, based on points per game all of the top 7 are on track to get over 75 points.

Guess he's working on the assumption one of them will drop off?

Is that PPG over the whole season? Would be interesting to know the projected on PPG over the last 10 matches.

PPG over last 10 games for the top 7:

Pompey - 2.2
Bolton - 2.1
Derby - 2.
Barnsley - 1.9
Oxford - 1.4
Stevenage - 1.3
Peterborough - 1.2
So we are doing enough to squeak in at the moment, if we can somehow find some form (and a way to see out a bloody game) we should be OK.

It's a difficult one to call. We're either hoping for an uptick in our form, in which case what other teams do becomes less relevant or we're hoping for a continuation of Stevenage & Peterborough's poor form.

I'd put more money on Stevenage's poor form continuing than Posh's, mind.

We've got them both coming to Oxford before the end of the season as well. 2 pivotal games.

A huge positive this week, is the addition of Luke Taylor.

It appears that would have been a Des "signing", having had previous experience working with him. At last, the club have shown a little support - better late than never. Now get the man, the assistant THAT he wants/deserves*

*delete as appropriate.

Given LT has been at the club since the start of the month and that before he arrived there was a period of nearly two months where nobody permanent was filling the role, I’m not sure I share your enthusiasm that this is a sign of much-needed investment and intent.

If anything, it makes me wonder why they’ve decided to put it out there weeks after the event and whether some people are merely desperate to appear in control.

Hadn't realised that he had been here for that length of time. At least they eventually allowed the communication to be released (we must appreciate that they think they communicate far too regularly with us anyway). I am sure come the end of the season, the communication will be hugely improved..................................................

Maybe we've had to wait until he was officially signed before we can actually start playing any sort of style of football?

Anyone watching the build-up to the Leicester v Leeds game tonight? They are discussing Leicester’s style of play - the fans are quite frustrated at the lack of urgency to get forward (sound familiar?) Apparently the idea is to draw the opposition in by playing a possession game at the back and then hit the wingers quick.

Low and behold, Leicester’s manager was Pep’s right hand man at Man City last season.

I think I’ve just had a lightbulb moment as to what Des is attempting to do here.

We’ve bought in to the Man City Group’s (The gospel according to Pep) style of play

You seem to be concerned that we may not have established any style of football.
You’ve never mentioned it before.
