Away Match Day Thread 02/01/2021 L1 Burton Albion v OUFC

The only sad part about all of this is, we can't be there. It's away days like these that make all the travelling and standing around in the cold worthwhile. Watching iFollow is just nothing in comparison.
Although I would say the tea and cake went down well at half time and the toilets here are spotless, have hot water and real towels! Access to the bar immediately after full time is no bad thing either!

Typical Lounger..... let them eat cake!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I concur that the facilities, the lack of travelling etc certainly outweigh many things.............except "being there" when your team opens a can of whoopass!

Great result, how bad were Burton though, see better teams on a Sunday morning at Hackney marshes !

Fair point but look at the teams we played. Not the easiest opening 10 games for an injury ravaged team with certain key players, out of form.
That is the biggest difference between MAPP and KR. MAPP teams always were ready to go except for the first season when the players were just not up to his style. He always got his business done early. No idea if financial constraints impact on KR or if he tried to get beyond our realistic expectations.

I have no doubt whatsoever that if we didn’t have Gorrin, Atkinson and Brannagan out for long spells at the start of the season, we would be in the top 6 right now.

Maybe but we still had a number of square pegs in round holes. The loss to Swi**on has proved pivotal. Long has suddenly become a class full back and Clare was a disaster at full back, McGuane took 10 games to understand what was required in League 1, Eastwood was a liability, Atkinson early on made a number of big defensive errors but considering they were his first games in the league not totally unexpected.
Just get the impression that the start of KR campaigns are experimental compared to MAPP. Dont get me wrong KR has done a huge amount for this club and hope he continues to do so.

You're right with that 38yearsofpain. That defeat to Swindon has really kick started our season! It's about the only good thing to come from that game!

Didn't expect that at all. Fair bloody play. Henry scores that sitter and I think we beat the Lincoln record - but obviously not complaining at all!

Nobody played badly but a special shout to Sam f*****g Long. SUCH brilliant attacking fullback play. It's not just the deliveries now, it's the movement, the intelligence and effectiveness of the runs forward, the energy for 90 minutes. I genuinely don't think it would be outrageous to say, based on the last few games, that he's now better than Cadden was for us last season. Three assists today, should have been four.

Burton didn't actually look that bad I didn't think. Better than Northampton and Plymouth when they actually got the ball down and started playing, certainly. Defence and midfield looked shaky at times, but equally we were playing some brilliant attacking football. I think Hasselbaink will keep them up.

Four points outside the playoffs now. Players coming into form, momentum building: we're top of the form table over the last 6 games, and fourth in the last 10 (since losing to Crewe). We won't make the autos, Hull and Lincoln are going at it too strongly, but if we can nip into the playoffs, with the momentum we have nobody would want to face us. Fingers crossed we don't get rusty in the next fortnight.
We may not make the playoffs or the autos, but I doubt it'll be because Hull and Lincoln are doing so well. The form table tells the truth, and though I don't put too much weight on the last five games for any team (we're top, Lincoln are 6th, and Hull are 19th), over the last 10 games we're 4th, Lincoln are 5th, and Hull are 9th. Over the past 15 games, Lincoln are 3rd, we're 7th, and Hull are 8th. I'd say that the automatics and the playoffs are totally up for grabs...and we have as good a chance as any, with 26 more games to go.

He is getting back towards his old self. Some of his link up play was superb including one particular pass to Sam Long. If he gets back to top form then we could get back to our heights of playing from last season.
Henry and Long seem to be developing a really good understanding.
Some of the play down the right with McGuane today was great to see.

- Great performance and I'm still buzzing from watching the game.
- Whilst there were so many candidates for motm it has to be Sam Long, just fantastic.
- That flick by McGuane for the last goal was just superb and perfectly weighted. It warrants a separate mention as it may got lost in the great play by Sam Long.
- So many good team goals and individual goals.
- Shodipo did so well with his 2 goals and definitely has a frontrunner for miss of the season. You know he'll be thinking about that miss and not getting his hat-trick rather than his 2 goals on the way home. If he keeps playing like he has recently (and RadOx, I'm certainly not expecting it every game by the way) and not switching off mentally defensively even when he isn't having the impact going forward, I'll be very, very happy with him in the team/matchday squad.
- Cam Bran playing today was fantastic news.
- He hasn't been mentioned, I think, but Elliot Moore was just so solid today. Also that run by Rob Atkinson warrants a mention as well.
- The Ref was excellent today.
- And finally, will iFollow finally learn how to spell 'Ruffels'?

A slow start of course, but it looks as though we may have found our form in sufficient time to really have an impact on the remainder of the season and be genuine contenders for another go at the playoffs.

It all depends on how the next block of 5 pans out imho, Take 8/9 points from that and we are well and truly on our way.
