Ex-Player Thread Yunus Konak

Getting better every game.

If we stay up a season long loan would be good all round surely. Good for us, good for his development and minutes on the pitch keeping Brentford happy!!

Terrific tonight and the difference between him and Vaulks is absolutely stark. He's aggressive, gets us up the pitch and doesn't hide which helps Brannagan, who unsurprisingly has found his form now. When Vaulks does his usual trick of hiding between the centre backs it leaves Cam completely outnumbered in the middle and we can't get a foothold in games, chalk and cheese compared to when Konak is playing.

Great pick up from the recruitment team and he'll be important in this run in.

His emergence over the last three games is a big reason for why we've become a team that now has it in its locker to press effectively. His tackling in the Blackburn defensive third was so impressive and he was also tidy on the ball. It's taken a bit of time, but our January recruitment has undoubtedly raised the level of our midfield.

If true, as per the ITK @tatabanya, that Rowett 'turned down' Konak in the summer - then that is also pretty damning and should go some way to mitigate the 'Rowett was stitched up' narrative.

Agreed. I’ve been fairly clear that I thought Rowett was let down in the summer. However, if he’d turned Konak down then he needs to have a look at himself. This is partly the issue with his style/mentality. He’d rather (presumably) of had Campbell than Konak. One coming to the end of their career, the other with a bright career ahead.

Rowett doing Rowett things.

Blaming recruitment, playing the victim and saying he could have kept us up on a podcast after being sacked.

Eugh.

Starting to become one of my favourite players - dude is everywhere. Pressing up on the Centre Backs, defending in his own area, winning possession and keeping it simple.

Has bags of energy (at least for 70 minutes......can't blame him for flagging after that and needing replacing given the yards he's put in) and confidence, and you need those two things for a relegation battle.

Easy to overlook those short, simple passes to a man in space (created the best chance of the game with one).

Far and away our most accurate passer yesterday (87% - next best 73%). Also love the way he leaps for headers.

Felt like a big moment in the second half when the ball ran out and he was throwing his arms up to the East Stand.

I agree with a lot of what has already been mentioned about Konak - brings a lot to the team. One thing I noticed is he seems to win a lot of headers for someone of his size and just adds to his all round midfield ability.

Read Cam’s views in the rag that can’t be mentioned on here. Sounds like he really likes playing with him, no wonder Cam is back in form spraying passes all over the pitch. And Yunus also seems to be one of the lads. Much better than having a will he won’t he Matos.

His resurgence could even keep McDonnell out the starting 11 for the rest of the season. Could have got an assist last night too if Peart-Harris scored his chance.

I thought that he was fantastic today.
Wins the ball time after time and is tidy in possession.
It is no coincidence that we have improved immeasurable since he came into the side

Cam was also excellent and looks far happier since Konac came into the side ( and does Cam look fitter?)

If we stay up, we maybe could keep him for another year on loan. No chance if we go down

Cam doesn't look fitter...he was puffing away in the second half. What Konak does do though is lighten the workload. And he does it very well too.

My only gripes with Konak are his long passing is poor, and he sometimes has space in front of him but seems reluctant to drive/burst forwards on the ball. That being said, he’s been a revelation since getting into the side and has played a big part in our resurgence. He’s absolutely everywhere, a real nuisance, tenacious. If we are to stay up he needs to stay fit and in this form.
