Current Player Thread Yunus Konak

Blimey, that signing really seems to tick all the boxes!

I could see him playing with BDK and Cam in a three; could also see us giving one of those a break from time-to-time, and playing either Donley or MPH in front of two of them.

Regardless, we have greatly improved our options already in January. Strong work from the recruitment team......we really haven't thrown in the towel!
The great thing is that I immediately thought we would be favouring 3-5-2, or 3-5-1-1, and BDK, Brannagan and Konak would all be nailed on starters. But then I realised we were pushing on wingers (MPH, now Woo) and therefore, maybe not…

Already a window with genuine consideration for depth and options. There must be some Bloomfield influence here (perhaps he was in the door much earlier than the announcement) because we’ve never been this good at selection, and he’s the only variable that’s changed.

We’re just not used having more than the bare minimum of midfielders

I wonder why he has both his names printed on the back of his shirt?

I don't want to sound too miserable, but do we have to go through the whole 'How will Nick Harris cope?' routine whenever we are linked with someone, or sign somebody foreign?

We've had a huge variety of foreign players in our domestic leagues over the past 30 years or so. It's not like it's something new! And Nick Harris hasn't commentated on a match in at least 10 years anyway.

Give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home🎵
Etc etc 😂

I'll wait til I see him play but looks a terrific signing on paper and exactly what we've been crying out for.

With this gap filled, Donley replacing Harris (bad luck with the injury), and MPH already through the door we're already in a much stronger position than the start of the month, where we were pretty good against Ipswich.

U ok hun? x

So saying 'How will Nick Harris cope?' is not boring then?
Less boring that your post, I'll tell you that.

If you want a proper answer to your original message:

Nick Harris struggles to get his mouth around a fair few of the English names, not just the foreign ones. While he no longer commentates, he is a regular pundit, so, of course, we will all get the chance to hear him (presumably) butcher the new player's name. This makes a few of us smile.

We're not laughing horribly at him, we're chuckling at one of his habits in the same way you might at a beloved uncle who always wears terrible jumpers. He's one of the crown jewels of the fantastic Radio Oxford Sport team, and is someone who has such a deep historical involvement in our beloved club, including having been one of our directors.

"How will Nick Harris cope?" brings a quiver of a smile to a few people's faces, else it wouldn't be an ongoing joke. What joy has your post brough, other than turning you into a momentary laughing stock?

Cheer up mate. We've signed a new midfield, and, just like Nick Harris, many of us will have to take a minute to work out how to pronounce his name.

Our thoughts are with Nick at the difficult time.

And that's why I'm feeling optimistic for Saturday.

If anyone ever listens to the radio Oxford sports team, it’s a running joke amongst themselves that Nick struggles, it’s what makes listening to Jerome, Nick and Nathan the envy of all other local BBC sports presenters!
It's been said a million times, but it bares saying again - we are blessed to have such a fantastic local BBC Sport coverage team.

Also, if you've not already done so, go listen to Behind The Badge podcast's 2-episode interview with Nick Harris. Very good listen!

"AND WE ARE UNDERWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"

Love Nick Harris and enjoyed the gag. It gets funnier with every telling like the picture of Karl Robinson looking excited every time we sign an injury prone winger.

Genuinely bonkers that we have such a good local BBC team. They are superb.

(And as an aside - also bonkers that we have such a good ambassador in Rosie. Top top man).

This does look an awesome signing. I’m sure we have more coming in but surely this means quite a few going now
