Well, you are if you have a mobile.

This (rather long) article details how and outlines some risks.

Three points:
your precise activity data is available to governments, advertisers and effectively any organisation that is will to pay for it
it's not just smartphones that can be tracked precisely, GPS data is not required although if you let your phone supply that to all and sundry (no, to anyone) you make it easier
anonymisation techniques used by networks don't really protect you - read the article, it explains how

How do you experts at life feel about this?

I've got an Huawei phone, so I've got both the Chinese AND the Americans on my case.

No doubt they are planning massive investment at the Kassam in an attempt to secure my regular £4.50 spend at Farrs Catering truck........

Hello friendly English peoples – this is Oxymoron on here now

Please rest easily assured that the glorious Peoples Republic of China do not monitor imperialist western person phone data

Thank you

I’m all for it if it gets me the best deals possible on ladies clothing for my lady dress up games.

They’ve been monitoring us all for years. They can also turn your phone camera and microphone on to collect extra data through sound and visuals. If you talk about very random and specific things around your phone enough then you’ll begin getting served ads for them, even if you haven’t been searching for those items on your device and therefore it isn’t cookie related. A colleague and I did this earlier this year when we spent a full 15 minutes talking about underpants while our phones sat on the desk in front of us, and then when we’d finished we left them in a draw out the way. A few hours later on our respective journeys home we began getting adverts for pants and sent each other screen shots.

Just try to ignore it. It’ll scare you half to death if you start realising the extent to which you’re monitored. Just don’t get an Alexa / home hub style device.

Alexa/etc aren't one for those worried about personal security... You can turn most of the stuff off your phone if you're willing to look - not that hard - and ensure stuff like wifi is turned off unless you need it. We're so lazy as a society, most people don't bother as it's too much effort!

As Gary Baldi says turn things OFF in the settings. I turned practically everything off on my smartphone (a chinese OnePlus 7) and now I can't find it!

Certainly turning things off and not running apps may help. But won't prevent your movements being monitored.

@Malc your phone has slipped between the cushions on yr settee. Again

Generally, turning the crap off also helps the battery last longer between charges. But again, most people can't be arsed to do it

Don't knock Alexa. After several burglaries in our street, I asked TVP if we could have a few extra patrols at night - they said they could not give us any special consideration.

After asking Alexa where I could buy several tons of fertiliser, ten gallons of bleach and greeting everyone that entered the room with "Allahu Akbar", we've now got two plain clothes officers sat in an unmarked car outside my house 24/7..........

The idea that simply ‘turning stuff off’ makes your phone somehow immune to this sort of intrusion is... well, it’s a total nonsense. You can’t turn off your microphone or camera, you can’t turn off your gps tracking, you can’t turn off your web logs or the ability of tech firms to simply monitor all of your activity. You can ‘turn off’ all the apps you like, you’ve still got a profile of yourself that they’re constantly updating. If you’re alive in the western world in 2019, you can’t ‘turn off’ anything.

Not that I really care. I’m happy to tell anybody where to get the best pornography.

Correct, and by matching radio logs with HLR location data they can see exactly where you've been.

If you’re alive in the western world in 2019, you can’t ‘turn off’ anything.

You can, but even employed people will struggle to live without web or phone access.

Not that I really care. I’m happy to tell anybody where to get the best pornography.

PM me.

What make of phone were you using?
Are some Manafactors worst for this than others?

“No honey I’m not having an affair with her. She sent me those pictures as part of a data marketing experiment “

Yes you can make it difficult to track you. But if you have a android phone you have to have a Google account to get any Apps or services , so....?
And everyone is forgetting that Facebook , Apple and Twitter are selling our details on anyway ( from what l have been told).

Never bothers me as i've got one of those new fangle thingy's that when any potential burglar knocks on my door or rings the bell i tell them i can see them but i'm abroad on Holiday..Amazing what you can pick up in local ads or the pub to replace stuff and for a fraction of what i paid for them originally..it pays to shop around :)
