Hi all

I thinking about attending on Saturday night.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who has been before cud let me know if its worth the cost. £72 for a meal. Decent night? Full of corporate suits? Its bloody expensive , so food any good???

Many thanks and kind regards

Im attending. Its a 2 course meal. Main and Desert. Food is the same as the SCM, don't expect anything special at all. its very average. After all the awards there's a couple hour socialising time where judging by videos of previous years the players do interact. It could get very pricey if you include £72 + ridiculously priced Kassam bar + taxis etc..

Much appreciated.

So did anyone on these boards go?

Interesting (to me at least) the 3 main winners on the night, Ledson, Ricardinho, Nelson & Eales might not be involved with OUFC next season, was this a plea to hang around a bit longer;)

Taken from the official site:-

Around 250 people were at the Kassam Stadium this evening to celebrate the season at the annual Oxford United Awards Evening.

Host Nathan Cooper introduced Chairman Tiger and Manager Karl Robinson to look back at the past season and both outlined their plans for the summer and the next campaign

After a three course meal the winners were announced for awards that recognised all areas of the club.

First to win an award was Ella Franklin Fraiture who was named as the Planet IT WSL Emerging Talent after a string of impressive performances for Andy Cook’s side. She was followed by the captains of the mens and women’s sides, Curtis Nelson and Lauren Haynes who both received awards, sponsored by Wellers, for their contribution to the Oxford United in the Community charity; the players from both sides have made well over 300 appearances to support the charity this season.

Next to win an award was an emotional Darryl Eales who won the Newtrim Club Person of the Year. This was chosen by all of the staff and players at the club and was presented to a shocked Darryl for his outstanding contribution to United’s success over the last four seasons.

The Jack Casley Young Player of the Year Award, sponsored by Tubes Scaffolding, is named after the first professional at the club and went to Ryan Ledson who also won the AWBS Andrew Knapton Supporters Player of the Year, presented to him ahead of today’s win over Rochdale.

The next award went to the Unsung Hero at the club, sponsored by Claridge Investments and was won by Terry Waite who works tirelessly to keep everything in order at the training ground, rarely courting publicity but always there to fix any problems and a worthy winner.

Guests were asked to vote for the Pennington Manches Goal of the Season and chose Ryan Ledson's goal at Charlton to give him his third award of the night while the Textures Flooring and Autotrak Golden Boot award will be presented after next Saturday’s game at Blackburn with Wes Thomas one goal ahead of James Henry.

The final award was the prestigious Players Player of the Season award and was won, to huge applause, by Brazilian left back Ricardinho.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors and our guests for what was a fantastic evening.

Tiger was there for the opening 30 minutes or so and then left. Don't know why. Flight to catch?

I was there. Great evening. Ledson enjoyed it!!
Nathan Cooper hosted, and after Ricardhino received his award (to a raucous rendition of his chant) Nathan asked him what was happening next season. He said he would be back here on 7th June. I spoke to him later and he again said he would be back for training.

I went. I didn't really enjoy it. I left early. I thought food terrible for £72+VAT. I personally HATE Nathan Cooper. He really winds me up. I LOVE Jerome Sale. Dan Bond, performance stats coach was an excellent compare. Faz was also excellent. Old school. Non-Pc. Both announced awards. Players LOVE Ricci as much as the fans. Saw Todd Kane signing his, I am assuming new contract. KR talks quickly. Lego couldnt be understood. Lots of Erms..AKA Steve G. Players tool the P**s out the poor chap. But he was on great form.
I am happy to answer any questions.

I like Nathan Cooper personally but understand that others might have a different opinion.

I would however suggest that it might be preferable to not attack the man personally given the rather sad events in his personal life in the last few years when his wife and mother of his young daughter died rather suddenly.

He’s seems a decent sort who does good charity work and I don’t think he deserves to be on the receiving end of heavy criticism on a forum for a club that he cares a lot about and does good work for.

I appreciate he has been through some extremely difficult times but I am sticking to my guns. I withdraw "HATE". That was too strong. He is definitely not my cup of tea. He loves the sound of his own voice and wasnt treated with much or any respect by the 250 guests at the dinner, so I am not the only one with the view. I just dont like him. And I not backing down.

What ever anyone’s view on him, 800 consecutive games commentating on Oufc is bloody impressive.

Yes and I still dont like his commentary. Drama queen. Too uptight. I do LOVE old Nick and Jerome Sale. I have heard from a senior players that Cooper loves the sound of his own voice too much. And they dont like him.

I think that is harsh. The 250 guests didn't lack respect for him- that must have just been wherever you were sitting.
Faz and Dan Bond were great, other speeches etc were as I would expect from a bunch of people whose feet do most of their PR work rather than their mouths!
Food was poor and drink was expensive.

See Wes got the Golden Boot. What happens if Henry scores 2 at Blackburn to go in the lead....does Wes hand it over? ???

I would have thought the players would like him as he makes their interviews very easy by asking the answer with a question mark at the end rather than the question!

I didn't realise Nick and Jerome were married to each other ?

Nick grates on me. Jerome is the best. We're lucky to have such a great team and coverage.

I sometimes listen to Radio Ox when @ the game and number of times Nick gets confused who is who does make me chuckle, even if we are losing.

Ref Jerome Sale, I heard on Radio Ox this am, that he lived and played for Blackbird Leys. He sounds much too middle class, IMO.
