A centre midfield of Hutchinson and Day, makes even todays squad look well stacked in that area. Forward line is pretty decent though, still didn't manage to score.

I was one of the 911 that watched it in complete despair. The pitch was a pudding and a leveller for us!

It is of course plausible that Quinn could have partnered Hutchinson in midfield that day but from memory we deployed Quinn in central defence during the first couple of years in non-league (shudder).

What ever way you slice it we were incredibly poor that season.

Nice to see Alex Jeannin actually did something when playing for us.

I would like to nominate him as having had the worst positional sense of any full-back we have ever had at any level.

Anyone care to try and up the ante?

Wasn't Tiendalli a full back? Unless you aren't counting him as couldn't move so unfair to hold a lack of positional sense against him.

Christmas 1981

No Boxing Day footie at the Manor with the clash against rivals Reading falling victim to the deep freeze that Winter.

The U’s had no home league games between November 28th 1981 and February 3rd 1982 due to bad weather and FA Cup matches.

Boxing Day 1963

Big Ron Atkinson and big Torquay United striker Robin Stubbs both sent off for fighting each other.

U’s triumph 1-0 over the Gulls at the Manor in front of 9,192.

Let us go back 12 months from there. Started snowing at dusk on Boxing Day (did we win at Newport?). Temperature dropped and dropped, snow piled up and everything froze as solid as an iceberg. No match at the Manor until mid March.
