True but we may well have established ourselves in the top flight rather than just staying up although the Manor and Maxwell situation would have been interesting to see what happened there .We might not have won our only senior trophy

I believe that Jim Smith wanted £50,000 per year, but Maxwell was not having that, so he left for QPR. Really not that much for a top flight manager even in those days.
Keith Cassells was pretty good in the old 3rd division, but did not quite make it in the top flight. I think we bought him from Brentford.This popped up on social media today. Keith Cassells was one of my earliest heroes. Here he is playing alongside the likes of Keegan and Channon. I remember being a young lad and heartbroken when he left (along with Mark Wright if my memory serves me well)

Got him from Watford as part of the Les Taylor deal, Southampton sold him to Brentford, later went to Mansfield
Played with Vinter and Whatmore with Ian Greaves as Manager at Mansfield as well.
I think that we sold him to Southampton at the same time as Mark Wright, getting Trevor Hebberd and George Lawrence ( initially on loan) in return?
