Had to Google Goodhind, no recollection of him at all!

This picture was on a facebook page about Oxfordshire sporting memories this morning and Ray Houghton commented on it.

This was around the time I started following football so hazy memories, but some decent names in that Villa team, shows what a team we had.

That's a terrible, terrible team from us!

Bit harsh. On their day Bash, Yemi and Hargreaves could put in a decent performance. And Elvis. Gotta love Elvis.

If 3 players who can 'put in a decent performance on their day', and a 4th with cool hair, is the sum total of your argument against that being a terrible, terrible team, then I think I win.

I’ve seen far worse OUFC teams.

Ashton. Willmott, PC Robinson, Mansell & hairbear Hargreaves we’re good solid pos.

Burgess & Odubade we’re flat players (on their day).

Bash knew where the net was and Tim Sills was prolific in non-league.

United , fighting to avoid relegation, win 2-1 on the plastic at Kenilworth Road, Luton, thanks to goals from strikers Jeremy Charles and John Aldridge.
The packed away terrace - the Kenilworth Road end - was roofed in the summer of 1986 and was then split between home and away supporters
for several seasons.

I was there that day. Wasn't it our third top-flight away win in a row?

It’s a game I went too but have little recollection of any of it.

Went to a pub on the Dunstable Road pre-match and drunk too much!

It was, though, the third league away win on the trot as you say. Chelsea, Manchester City and Luton.

Think we lost the next one 6-0 at Anfield. The only memory of that was the antics of the Merseyside Police.

I've forgotten so many games. I'm currently desperately trying to forget Wednesday night.

Burgess was a show pony who regularly went missing. Which is genuinely disappointing as he clearly was very talented.

Sunday football for the U’s on this day due to the Miners strike of 1974 meaning power was rationed and it was felt Sundays would have a more reliable source of electricity.

A state of emergency was declared in Britain with a three day week introduced to save electricity.Floodlights could not be used and the Football League had to obtain permission from the Home Office to play matches on a Sunday.

Midweek fixtures were being played at 1.30pm at some grounds. QPR played Chelsea in an FA Cup replay on a Wednesday afternoon as did Cambridge who played Rochdale when fewer than 500 turned up.With the Yom Kippur war between Israel and Arab nations, OPEC refused to supply western nations who had supported Israel with oil meaning petrol became very expensive and with uncertain employment, attendances were greatly effected. The Football League refused to allow clubs to rearrange matches and feared extending the season until June 1974 would lead to fixture chaos.

Meanwhile Oxford Utd entertained bitter rivals Swindon Town at the Manor whose ‘keeper Jimmy Allan refused to play on Sundays on religious grounds as he was a devout Christian. Hugh Curran beat stand in ‘keeper Alan Spratley to open the scoring for the U’s before winger David Moss levelled with 15 minutes to play. Swindon were relegated at the end of the 1973-74 season to the third division.

It's a shame Hargreaves didn't put in any decent performances when he was club captain and we got relegated out of the league then. Scored at Grimsby on debut and then went missing for the rest of the season. Absolutely terrible for Us - I will not have a good word said about him!

Re Stockport match. I realise there are always many ifs and buts in a season, particularly a relegation one, but I heard had we held on for a draw in that match we would have stayed up and Stockport relegated.

Far too many bad memories of this time (Orient) to check this fact.

Interested to hear about these 'far worse OUFC teams'.
The worst team we have ever had imo was the team that David Kemp 'managed'- relegated from the third tier (whatever it was called then) and conceded 100+ League goals. I honestly think that team would have been relegated from the Conference, it was that bad. Definitely the worst bunch of players I have ever seen for us!
