QPR striker John Byrne levels in the last seconds at Loftus Road after Ray Houghton opened the scoring.

John Aldridge was one of them and labelled Oxford Utd a “Mickey Mouse” club in the National press.

Lee Nogan is a funny one, looked a class player when with us but sadly it never quite clicked. Definitely showed his class elsewhere though. Always sticks out as high quality player that got away from us through nobody's fault.

Always reminisce this time of year and not always in a good way................. 22nd December 1984...

That was never, ever a corner for the winning goal!

The thing about that match was how wet and cold it was and how ill I became over that Christmas.

The defeat effectively ended George Lawrence’s career at OUFC as Jim Smith pinned him to the dressing room door
afterwards for giving the ball away at the death.

What a well written report - you don't get that these days from the OM. I remember listening to that game on the radio, I wasn't going to games but was getting interested.

When football was a genuine game. Mud, guts and terraces - could be book title there! :ROFLMAO: 🤷‍♀️

However I just looked up Noel Blake on Wiki to see if he was really a 'West Indian', and saw this: 'Whilst he did enjoy some success at 'Pompey' winning promotion as Second Division runners-up in 1987, Blake had problems with racial abuse from his own supporters, at a time when racism was still rife in English football.' So there's that.

That was the game when a Pompey fan dressed as Father Christmas ran onto the pitch towards the end of the game. The interuption seemed to distract United and inspire Portsmouth.

Can we please stop talking about that game. Weather was horrid, pitch was a typical Sunday league pitch, to cap it all we were kept in after the game to stand in the rain get wetter and avoid the numerous missiles thrown at us from the locals in the alley behind the Milton End.

All you need to remember is we went up as champions, they, being Pompey, choked and missed out on promotion... First of many chokes involving Oxford 🤣
