Yellow Division Displays

So Grant Ferguson pleads with the fans to provide more support to the players at home games.

The fans rally and do so.

A committed group take it one stage further and work hard to bring displays back, giving their time, skill and the funds provided by the wider support base to do so.

And then in steps Health & Safety with what sounds like a heavy handed approach and throws it back in their faces.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

So, Grant, what will you be doing about this?

I might be wrong and I’m sure @WuTang can correct me, but wasn’t Jim Goddard involved with match day safety when the ultras had problems with the club over similar things?

Edit: Jim Goddard was working at the club in the 18/19 season, the same season that the ultras decided to call it a day at the end of it.
He didn't come across all that well at the fans forum... a bit of a waffler.

he came over a bit too full of his own self-importance to me- presuming he was the very suntanned chappy who spoke with a wurzel like accent ?
Yes deffo full of him self, made me think straight away, who the f***k are you, a bit of a know it all. Especially in my eyes as he's an outsider.

He was there but not sure if it was in the same role, I didn't have much, if any, interaction with him back then. I've enjoyed my first interactions with him this season even if it's been restricted to him blocking my away tickets being dispatched and calling me into meetings, I am yet to meet him and yet to receive an email back after asking for an apology. I'm not going to let it get any worse as I don't want to jeopardise Yellow Division working with them this season, but they need to know what's acceptable regarding stewarding behaviour and unnecessary heavy handedness over flag waving, I will stick up for the new young lads doing displays if I think they're being let down or bullied especially with my past experiences :)

Out of interest, what reason did he have to block your away tickets?
If this isn’t sorted out then the Yellow Division will be finished before it has had a chance to take off.
Do OUSP or OxVox have any planned meetings lined up with the club?

OUSP have fixed meetings with the club every couple of months, but can also raise issues outside of these meetings. We look to collate information ahead of these meetings, and one of the panel has close contacts within the YA/YD to get first hand experiences from them, which I try to add to from looking on here.

As I previously posted, we met with Joe Nicholls and Andy Taylor prior to the season starting, and there were positives from all sides. We have previously spoken with Jim Goddard too, and he gave a general assurance that the club wanted to work with fans groups.

That's why it's important to know what's changed or where the specific problems are so that we can look to address them. Whilst there will be ground regulations, there will always be opportunities for a little discretion or to look at ways that all parties can adapt to work within these.

By the sounds of what is being reported on here, the time for a "little discretion" has long gone. Either the club want atmosphere or, they don't. Either there are good grounds to ban flags, banners etc. or someone is being sheer bloody minded and lacks any common sense.

I find this treatment of supporters who, let's face it, have made considerable efforts to support the club and encourage success. It's time for the Board, CEO and other senior staff to be honest and state categorically what they want, expect, will allow and, most importantly, communicate directly with supporters and the fan base.

This subject, and the situation with the new dugouts, is just intolerable. When will we get meaningful communication?

Reading the accounts on here I don't think "anything has changed". It's elected club officials or employees who pat the heads of supporter groups and tell them how supportive they are/will be etc. Then, when match day arrives they revert back to their intolerant and ill-informed selves. It's the same story repeating itself again and again.

With things like this and the constant rebuttal of offers of unpaid help from experienced supporters in other areas, you can't help getting the impression that the club would like us all to just shut up, pay our money and buy some merch. For all the appeals to make more noise and 'get behind the team', they only want us to do that on their terms.

those coming out with those soundbites periodically talk the talk, yet as yet seem to be unable or incapable of walking the walk

An old James Brown classic comes to mind

No reason given, communication stopped and not had a problem with the away tickets since the blocked ones. Think the YA spoke to him so guess he's just let this one go for now. Totally bizarre.

what is odd is that youre on a forum talking as if youre the one doing all the hard graft yet I kno one of the guys heavily involved and he hasnt got a clue who you could be

anyway as you were fella
I have been a part of / worked with the YD since day one.

I'm not suggesting that I'm doing 'all of the hard graft' at all, its a team effort and lot of work goes into it. For you to come on here and suggest I have done nothing / do nothing is quite frankly, a bit weird - just because someone doesn't know me by my YellowsForum username.

The good thing about an online psyudonym is, people dont have to know who I am. I know all of the lads that are involved in this. Every single one of them.

I do a lot more than you think/know. Feel free to message me privately if you want to know more about my involvement in the YD/YA.

Cheers.

Well, there is some discretion re ground regs. otherwise there would be a big crackdown on standing. What is really needed is better communicating of where the issue is coming from, and if it is just a club decision they need to own it.

Funny that there's a whopping great picture of my Swiss Yellows flag at the back of the stand, but the Swiss Yellows flag is no longer allowed in.

XD. Last time this happened Chris Williams stepped in to tell the stewards to back the f**k off, not sure who we turn too now.

Sounds about right.

CW was one of us. Won’t ever use the party line that it was positive he moved on and the media side was ‘refreshed’

I do miss the video match previews that Chris and Martin used to do. Although they were 'corporate' to a degree, the 'supporter' in them always came through. The Dub is the closest we get to that sort of thing now (although it is not of course the same sort of thing).

Is it the club, or the stadium company being problematic, or both?

excellent post @Manorlounger - I agree with, and second every word of it

Here's Man Utd (a possible model) 2023 income statement (Finanical Report, my extract):
Commercial revenue 302,886, Broadcasting revenue 209,095, Matchday revenue 136,420. About 21%.

Not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

But who is behind the curtain?

sounds like we should all hand our phones in at the turnstile! they will bring those lockable pouches in that they have at the o2 soon. Imagine not being able to check scores or anything until after the game!
We’ll all have to stand outside Rumbelows on the London Road after the game to catch the other results🤣🤣

I know this is off topic but, bloody hell @Sarge, you know your music. Every time you post something I give it a spin and I’m not disappointed

on a slightly off-topic (but related to stewarding) note - why was everyone entering the right side of the East stand being searched and bags checked, which led to queues going all the way across the stand, but nothing on the left side? Seems weird. I walked to the end of the queue for the right side (and the turnstiles mentioned on my ticket) and was right next to the left side turnstiles - no queue or checks there - I thought **** it, and just went to the left hand turnstiles (tickets seem to work for both) and straight in.
Because we all know the Right Side are up to no good #We'reTheLeftSideLondonRoad
