Memory Lane Worst ever game?

I'm still too young, so I'll say that horror under Pep against Wigan.
You’ve had it easy! You’ve even missed out on watching some of the frauds we had who claimed to be footballers 😅

Yeovil away for me.
I forgot this one. Playing the Beatles after every goal and there were 6 of them!

Bradford away 23rd December 1995. Absolutely freezing they scored early goal and nothing then happened until we scored on 90 mins…….which was then ruled out.

Several games in the conference. But the 0-4 defeat (before half time) to Rotherham at home on a cold, wet Tuesday night in L2 is still a game that I cant get over.

Everything about the result, the weather, atmosphere, where we were in the league, the number of away fans coming to matches etc. it was just so demoralising.

The likes of Westley and Evans controlling games with shithouse tactics to get a result in front of 50 away supporters just made it worse.

I can’t remember who we played, but there was a game towards the end of the Wilder era when lots of fans were fed up.

It was a night game (I think) and a conga line of Wilder-outers was calling for him to go while slaloming round the East Stand.

Nobody was watching the game as it was so vapid, and there was probably only about 4000 of us rattling away there anyway.

I didn’t even want Wilder sacked personally, but it was one of those times when had gone way too flat,

Anyone remember this?

Sounds like a game at Rushden and Diamonds (I wasn’t there but I heard our away fans did the conga).

We never played Rushden and Diamonds under Wilder in the football league, we never played them again after beating them in the conference play off semis, they went bust a few years after.

There are lots of obvious ones like Wigan 0-7 but I always think the most depressing score to lose by is 0-1 at home. Often the other team score early then nothing else happens. Too many of those to remember but Swansea last season was up there.

The Wigan 7-0 sticks strongly in my mind. It was Boxing Day, or at least a Christmas fixture, and it was the first game I took my now-ex partner to. I was excited to show her what being an Oxford fan was about.

We got destroyed. Will Grigg scored a hat trick.

I’ve just looked up their starting 11 and they had Chey Dunkley and Dan Burn at centre back! And, a young Reece James apparently. We didn’t stand a chance.

We also had Tiendalli at LB.

Not as grim as losing away to s**t clubs in the conference, but it was just generally a s**t day.

The homity pie was okay

Losing at Lewes and Hayes & Yeading both left a bad taste in the mouth. I remember a home loss to Weymouth that was shocking too.

Think the worst ive seen us as a performance overall was away at Southend. Might have been under Wilder or Waddock I can't quite remember but I'm pretty sure it was live on sky. I'm pretty sure you could have fielded 11 lads in the away end that night who would have given it a better go

That 3-0 at Rushden under Talbot, in the season we were relegated out of the league. They scored 3 quickfire first half goals, and we were about as abysmal as it's possible to be, with a peculiar line-up. They were in the bottom two at the time, and in fact were the side that finished below us in the end.

(I wasn't at the 5-0 defeat at Rushden two seasons later. That sounded bad too.)

That (the Rushden 5-0 loss) was on Setanta, so I remember watching it at home. In fact the loss to Droylesden and a season opening away loss to Barrow were also on there as well, it seems to tie in with when we hit rock bottom as the first and last season were both on Sky, Setanta caught the end of Jim Smiths second reign, the Patto years and fax gate in its two years. The Sky coverage might just have been the play offs though.

Rushden also seem linked with our fall from grace, quite fitting that we beat them in the play off semi.

Some real horrible ones mentioned! 😳

Certainly doesn't come top of the list but doesn't sit comfortably with me that we've lost to Accrington Stanley (at home) about 5 times in the last decade!!

For me was it was Woking at Christmas. Absolutely dire. Fullish house at home
We didn’t lose but both teams deserved to.

As far as I’m concerned that was our low point and summed up how far we’d fallen.

Days like orient were terrible but I thought we’d bounce back. After that Woking game I had little hope

Definitely the 7-1 home defeat by Birmingham. Stood on open terrace of Beech Road got absolutely soaked to the skin, and therefore left before end
( which I never do normally) and missed our 'consolation' goal.

That was under Jim Smith. Phil Trainer fired a free kick into the stars was the best thing we did.

It was the absolute nadir, it seemed there was no way back.

I think Jim resigned the next day.

I'd say Marlow was truly humbling , a poor nat league south side who I think were bottom 2 when we were top end of league one .
Southend away 1-6 (0-4 at half time) was also dreadful , first time I thought I might as well leave at half time (I didn't and never have but was tempted that day)
