Probably the kiss of death but Stokes is looking very good.
78 not out at the moment ( Pope was just given out LBW but successfully reviewed)

There you go.
Looked a cert 100 for Stokes and he gets out for 91. Not a clever shot but very good catch in the slips.
277 for 5.
Come on Buttler!!

Should still be on for 400+ on a fairly tame wicket.. It will be interesting if there gets any more life in this pitch for our bowlers to exploit but could see this going to a draw without someone really stepping up.

Archer is the one who could do something on this wicket.
England collapsing?

A familiar collapse from England, but very much in control at the moment. Feels like they need to get a lead of 50+ to keep ahead of the game

Yes England bowlers have bounced back.
2 one day type dismissals (Ross Taylor and Ravel), and Curran got one to jump from.nothing to get Williamson.
England are now in control but it is a good wicket and Buttler and Leach showed what can be done.

Pity some of the better batsmen don't have Leach's determination not to give his wicket away. He is like Michael Atherton in that respect (not the levels of batting ability obviously) and if he could add a few shots to his game I could see him going up the order.

Yes. Stokes and Pope both giving their wickets away when they were looking untroubled and a 400 plus score was looking quite likely. There was no need to rush.
Leach applies himself and is a good guy to have at the other end.
Nice to see Sam bowling. We need that variation and IMHO was unlucky not to be more involved in the Ashes.

England only managed 2 wickets, making hard work of it ... NZ lead by 41 runs with 4 wickets left in the 1st innings

On dear that was a nightmare.
A hammering.
NZ bowled and batted a whole lot better than England did.
Pope's shot on the 5th day was ridiculous but he wasnt alone.

You can see where this team is still young. Naive but playing against a good team who are ruthless and will expose you. Much to contemplate for Silverwood

Pathetic effort at saving the game.
Poor shots at the wrong balls at the wrong time was the main problem.
100 runs at least short in the 1st innings, plus some lacklustre bowling and fielding.
All in all outplayed.

Once again, the batting let us down.

The only difference this Test was that the bowling let us down as well. No excuse for shipping over 600 to this New Zealand side, in New Zealand, however flat the pitch was.

Poor effort all round. Must do better.

England won the toss and are bowling .
Crawley batting at 6, Pope wk.
Leach dropped and 5 seamers! Why do we need 5 seamers?
A dry pitch so very strange.

What has happened to Foakes? Can't work out our selection policy at the moment.

The NZ commentators are surprised that we dibt have Bairstow in squad.
They said that we have gone from one extreme (3 WKs- Foaked. Buttler and Bairstow) to having Pope having to play there.
