Ex-Player Thread Will Vaulks

I would think that the club really would p**s Ramsey off if they started to let go someone of Vaulks experience. Losing players due to release clauses being activated is one thing but then letting players go after saying the aim was to keep the squad together really would be shitting on the new manager.

Sounded as if Ramsey was happy with this.
He suggested after the game Saturday that he wants a route for the younger players

I said the other day that I think this is a good move for all parties. Tranmere get a great guy, and someone who will do a decent job in League Two with nature leadership. Will gets to return back to his roots, and after everything he's been through, no one can begrudge him thinking of his wider family. And we get a high earning squad player off our books as we look to trim costs and return to a youth development/player trading model.

I've been lucky to talk with Will on several occasions. He is a genuinely decent guy who makes time for everyone and did huge amounts for many different community groups and individuals in need. In a world where footballers and generally portrayed as money orientated prima-donnas, Will stands out for his selflessness and real kindness.

I wish him well for the future and wouldn't be surprised to see him transition into a really good young manager after his playing days are over.
 
Good business by the football club to get a sizeable wage off the bill, from a player that is the wrong side of 30.

Vaulks will probably be remembered at our club for his off the field work. As much as the stuff he produced on it.

That is not to downplay the conversations he started around suicide and the personal trauma that he and his family have suffered. A cracking guy, a good pro and someone who deserves the very best of luck.
 
Can’t say I really rated him as a player, so getting a big wage earner who wouldn’t be a starter gone is a very sensible move for us especially given the situation. As said above it’s a bit of a sign of what went wrong that a player who was a starting midfielder for us quite often in the championship has dropped to league 2.

The long throw was fun the first season and painful the second, I think even he had had enough of basically being on the pitch for it by the end, hopefully Tranmere use it a bit more sparingly so he has a bit of energy left to actually play the game.
 
Met will vaulks very briefly at old rd campus in headington. Very down to earth and will probably go on to have a decent career in coaching and management. Good luck to the man, a good human being.

From a playing perspective, a good move for Oxford United.
 
The exquisite art of the long throw is under attack.

If throw-ins were arias, Vaulks would be Pavarotti, but it does usually take him more than 5 seconds to reach the touchline.

Going to the club where it all began, and which he left 14 years ago, is pure poetry. He should get love there, and he's earned it.
 
Yes, sensible move for everyone. Can only wish Vaulks well at Tranmere, an impressive chap.

Is it too early to say that we are seeing signs of better off field football management already?

* We’re clearly standing our ground re player valuations. If we do sell it’s going to be on our terms.

*We’ve saved considerable wages on experienced pros who probably wouldn’t play much (Ingram & Vaulks), alongside savings on Romeny salary. At the same time we have created a clearer pathway for a couple of youngsters.

At a time when we’re all grasping for positives, I think there are signs of some decent off field decision making. If we could escape this window with BDK being the only additional sale then that will be a better position than I thought we’d be in when the initial news broke.

* But I do fear that Stan will also be off..
