Ex-Player Thread Will Lankshear

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Middlesbrough come in for Stan now as well.

Granted it’s a good move and Spurs appear to be getting a decent price and he may well be in the premier league in 12 months anyway, but that’s some rough treatment from spurs when we know their agenda is just to free them up to continue their spree.

Spurs are throwing around silly money this summer with complete disregard to their academy prospects.

They even still seem to set to allow Djed Spence go despite him having a bit of a breakout this summer at the WC

Such a Spurs-y summer; bought a guy for £85m who didn't even make Portugal's World Cup squad.

Now apparently about to sell, for half that, the breakout star of England's World Cup campaign.

It's kind of insane that they almost got themselves relegated last season when you then see three of the WC semi-finalists (including both finalists) starting Tottenham defenders in their biggest games!
 
Well he's got his permanent move above Dane Scarlett at any rate. But he wasn't going to get much game time was he with the dosh Spurs are throwing around.
 
Absolutely delighted for Will and wish him all the best at Middlesbrough. Just wish he was given a proper chance at Spurs but at least with this move, he can immediately continue where he left off at a very good level and continue to grow. He may get Boro up or he could even get a move back into the Prem with someone else in the next few years. The lad has astonishing potential and it's a privilege to have a player like him at our club.

I wonder what his career path would have been had Spurs been relegated.

I think the Borough fans will love him. He gives 100 percent every match and is an old school no 9. He is also thoughtful and articulate when being interviewed for such a young lad.Hope he goes on to have a stellar career, he has all the attributes.

He definitely would've been in their first team and probably starting. Spurs would've been financially crippled and had a wealth of limitations on their spend, so players like Will would have been ideal for them to see out the season. It's just a shame as we've seen with so many big clubs, that instant huge spending can kill off prospects of developing players so they have to find alternatives. Hopefully it will come back to bite Spurs in the long run!
 
Seems a good move - fingers crossed he can carry on where he left off for us and be the missing link to help 'Boro score a few more goals and make the step up to the Premier League.

Reports suggest that Spurs have a buy-back/first refusal clause of sorts - seems sensible on their part if he does have a good few seasons.

I suspect that's only with substantial add-ons (i.e. £5m extra upon promotion - by then a drop in the ocean).

And you only need to look at comparable recent examples to see that £10m+ is not a surprise - Ellis Simms (similar trajectory, got 7 on loan at Sunderland at age 21) went from Everton to Coventry for £8m (three years ago).

Even if Lankshear 'only' goes on to be another Simms, that's still a top Championship striker with 10+ years ahead of him.

He would have to completely flop for them not to recoup that one way or the other - and from what I have seen and heard of Will Lankshear I find that highly unlikely...

Can definitely see it. There was a thing going around during the world cup of a list of English strikers who will be below the age of 30 at the Euros with at least one appearance in a top 5 league last season:

Liam Delap
Eddie Nketiah
Dane Scarlett

That was it.

I am not sure it was meant as a dig to anyone and more just a glowing reference of his new manager.
 
MPH lumped in with Lankshear? Well, the skill was there, perhaps for a side at the other end of the table he might match it with some effort.
