Ex-Player Thread Will Lankshear

Its a shame that the rules mean he can't play for his parent club. You'd think they would allow this for the players development. Not saying he would play for Spurs, but sure there are other players on the fringe of playing in the EPL who were loaned out but can't this season.

Interesting piece about Will in the FLP today. Guy has a great future ahead of him, no doubt.

It always staggers me that Guy Branston never played for us at any point in his career. A loan spell under Ian Atkins, a season under Wilder during the ‘London Welsh’ years, one of the players to steady the ship under Denis Smith in 1999-00 or even a short term contract during our time in the Conference - he could have surely popped up in a yellow shirt at some point.

Perhaps because we had Guy Butters way back when there is simply no room for having another ‘Guy B’ play for us.

It's OK...it's all going to plan...

Spurs just about survive, give him limited Premier League minutes and eventually send him out on a frustrating loan to QPR in January where he suffers a minor injury that limits his playing time. Spurs finish 15th in the EPL and think they are big time again so let him go for a nominal fee back to us as our first bit of business having been promoted back to the Championship - ready for him to score 25.

Did well, very well. Far from the finished article and so many areas he can improve in but looks an intelligent player and I'm sure he will benefit from his time with us. Doesn't look a £10m player and doesn't look like a PL career beckons but will carve out a very decent career in the Championship or in a weaker league top flight elsewhere in Europe.

Do you know what championship centre forwards go for? If he is a championship centre forward then £10 million is realistic. Considering he just led the line at a young age and was top goal scorer for a struggling team that was relegated then I would say Spurs could well get an offer approaching that this summer.

Yes, I do, and it's only my opinion.

Remember, 18 months ago at least half this forum were saying Goodrham is a cert for a PL career, and maybe England. It's a huge leap from the Championship to the PL and far more fail than they do succeed - just look at the regularity the promoted teams come back down.

How much did Birmingham City pay for Stansfield? That puts the £10 million for Lankshear in perspective. He doesn’t need to go to a prem club to be worth £10 million.

Big difference between people on here putting a price on Tyler Goodrham and Tottenham Hotspur putting a price on Lankshear.

Really?

I genuinely don't know myself because I've watched very little Premier League football over the years (why would I have done?) so have nothing to benchmark against.

But from looking at the stats I can see that Harry Kane (the best English striker of his generation and one of the best in Europe - or so I'm told) had a very similar level of experience and goals to Lankshear at the same age.

Kane literally broke through for Spurs only at the end of the season before he turned 21.

Lankshear has just turned 21.

I'm not saying he is destined for anything, but I'd genuinely be interested to know what you would have liked to have seen from a 20 year old on loan at this level in order to give him the nod of approval to go to the top?
