He's had various injuries over the last few years.
Main ones being ankle and quad. It's been stop/start since his Stoke days.
I think we took a punt based purely on his performance for Cheltenham against us. One look at his injury record should have set off the alarm bells. Not his fault, he got himself a very good contract. Purely down to a failure in recruitment .

So you want to pay him up but then say the club should spend money on rehab afterwards?
That makes no sense. He is under contract and the club have a duty to make sure players receive the best care possible while they are contracted to us.

I imagine he is also going through a pretty tough time mentally right now have suffered yet another injury.
Godwin’s transfer was and has been a nightmare for all concerned. He was purchased with the club’s knowledge of an injury which was wrong in the first place . His re hab will obviously take some time to regain full fitness, maybe he never will be 100% fit who knows . Either way I still stand by my previous post.

So I will ask again, why would the club pay his contract up and then pay for his rehab once he is no longer our player?

Unfortunately I say pay his contract up , de register and let him do re hab at ours until fit . We have to toughen up now especially if we want to remain in the championship.
This makes no financial sense what so ever.
Did you pay for you house off in one payment? Have you paid your gas, electricity and water for the next 3 years?

With your logic, If not, why not?

We've signed a real prospect on a contract that is a minimum of 2 1/2 years plus a further year option, and we've got people stressing that he might miss a couple of games this month!

I'm glad that our backroom team are looking to get players fit to make an impact for the rest of the season rather than rushing them into games then losing them for months.
lol just read this from when he signed

4 years is the way to go. You will get the odd bad apple like Hanson, but the financial benefits with sales and more stability in long term squad far outweighs the negatives. When you do 3 year, you have to sell a year later to maximise the profit as by the time you are down to 12 months it's either sell at a cut price or keep and let go for free.

We have lost millions on the back of this.

Just found your post about Stuart Findlay! Its amazing how hindsight works.

I stand by what I said 1 year ago.
Utter waste of space, we should have agreed a mutually acceptable figure then paid him off in full and nullified his contract, allowing him to either look for another club, or most likely another career. He would have had a decent lump sum up front, we’d have saved money long term.
Why prolong the agony for him and the club?

Because we agreed to pay him a certain amount over a certain period. He's entitled to hold on for that.

I imagine he would jump at a full pay out but why would we do that when we can claw a bit back from loans? Its a deal that's gone wrong but the enthusiasm some on here have to pay players up is strange, no financial upside for us in paying them up or over a year for instance.

Do we actually know what the new injury is or how long he’s going to be out for?

If it’s true he’s out for a long period of time again it’s a real shame, but with his track record now, if I was a club looking to recruit, I certainly wouldn’t be jumping in to take him on loan

It's a shame we can't just take him back to Argos with a receipt and get a refund. I'm sure we've still got the receipt

Joking aside I feel sorry for this lad he's never going to have a full season he's so injury prone it's a shame

Easy to blame OUFC for this. Plenty of bigger clubs have made more catastrophic mistakes than this one.
Injuries like this one are very hard to diagnose.
I hope his career is resurrected but it looks unlikely to be with us.
Brentford buying Baptiste is one I guess

He is on loan at Colchester at the moment. Not certain where the story that his injury means he is back with us and we are not receiving any money from Colchester has come from, as that never seems to apply to us and loan signings we make who get injured.

Whilst he is contracted to the club obviously carry out the re hab , any fool would know that !

If he has to choose another career because of ongoing injury problems then a financial boost would help him, we will have to pay him anyway until his contract expires.

It's a groin injury and Colchester reckon it's a long one, but they may have been referring to his schlong - it wasn't clear

Getting some unwarranted comments regarding my posts re Goodwin . I take it all on the Chin however I look at the long term not the short as most of you are . Unfortunately one cannot have an opinion on this and other threads as the foul mouthed bully boys stick there oar in to belittle others posts on a public forum!

What are the unwarranted comments? People are trying to understand your logic as it doesn't make sense to them. That isn't unwarranted or foul mouthed.

Which all counts towards FFP, thus, reducing the player budget and making the club in a weaker position.

Scotch, I still stand by long term deals for players with growth. Why do you think every club with decent foundations do it?

We were always told that the homework on the players was being done properly. Clearly not in Findlays case. He was not good enough for top end L1, let alone growth.

The recruitment team should've known this.

Reckon in this casé KR got a bee in his bonnet about him hence waiting and waiting on him. Should have been overruled but easier said rhan done.
