I heard that also, reckon that bullsh#t, why would we loan him out at league two level? Surely league one would be favourable, not only for standard of opposition, but I would imagine league one teams would be paying more towards wages?

The best chance of us minimising our losses on this deal is for Goodwin to have a successful season on loan and to then sell him on next summer. It may be felt that he is more likely to achieve this in league 2.

Presume Goodwin himself has some say in the matter too?

Could be down to style of football, minutes he's been told he'll get, etc.

Not just about the money.
Cowleyball is absolutely ideal for him. He could score loads.

Theres clearly a player there, he absolutely bullied us for Cheltenham, and I suspect he will do well.

Best case scenario is that he bangs in a lot of goals for Colchester this season......but even if he does, he'll be a 24 year old with a long injury history entering (I presume) the last year of his contract, who won't have proven himself above League Two.
We signed him because he scored 6 goals in 16 appearances in League 1

That's not proving himself in my book......not a big enough sample size.

That's like saying Dane Scarlett scored 4 goals in less than 800 minutes last season......he's a proven Championship striker! (he certainly isn't........)
Well he's closer to that than a Prem regular!

The question is whether he'll ever play professional football again after we release him. Bloke is held together with tissue paper and scotch tape.
Strikes me as one of those that drop out of the league and end up playing for Chelmsford City.
What happens regarding the insurance? If he has to quit do Oxford get paid?

He will probably be returning to Oxford for his rehabilitation.

I hope he retires from football once his contract is complete .

There's one thing for certain, we were naive and had the wool pulled over our eyes with this one!! He was injured when we signed him and all the signs were there of an injury prone player.
Very poor from whoever gave the go ahead to sign him.
It was crazy signing and we have had a few. All the Cheltenham fans were saying well overpriced and he is made of glass. He never even looked promising in the limited time he spent on the pitch for us. Feel for the bloke, but an expensive panic mistake by the club.

Had we not gone up this transfer would have been totally disastrous. Had the air of a panic signing at the time and so it's proven to be.

Unfortunately I say pay his contract up , de register and let him do re hab at ours until fit . We have to toughen up now especially if we want to remain in the championship.

Thereโ€™s a guy fighting for a career right now. Letโ€™s hold off making comments like this.

There is nobody to blame for the Goodwin situation other than Oxford United Football Club.

So you want to pay him up but then say the club should spend money on rehab afterwards?
That makes no sense. He is under contract and the club have a duty to make sure players receive the best care possible while they are contracted to us.

I imagine he is also going through a pretty tough time mentally right now have suffered yet another injury.

It shows what a brutal industry football can be at times.

Yes it is and Will Goodwin is just 1 example of a player who might never fulfil his potential due to his body letting him down.

It is also why I donโ€™t get upset when players, certainly in the lower leagues move clubs for the money. It can be a very short career.

Owen Dale is another example of a player who is happy to sit on his final year of his contract so that he gets the full amount of money from it before maybe having to drop down a level or 2 on less money.

Easy to blame OUFC for this. Plenty of bigger clubs have made more catastrophic mistakes than this one.
Injuries like this one are very hard to diagnose.
I hope his career is resurrected but it looks unlikely to be with us.
