I reckon it’ll play out like this:

Derby 1 - 1 Stoke - both safe
Bristol 2 - 1 Preston
Portsmouth 1 - 1 Hull
WBA 2 - 1 Luton

Luton go down on goal difference, level on points with Hull and Preston.

Preston
I can’t see Preston getting anything at Bristol. Bristol will need the win so they’ll be going all guns blazing, and Preston are dropping like a stone.

Hull
Pompey are on the beach now, they’ll want a good end to the season but they won’t jump above Watford, though Fratton Park is a b****r of a place to need a result. Hull have to get something, not sure about a win but I reckon they’ll get a point. Huge game for them and Selles.

Luton
WBA also on the beach, but they’ll want to prove something I think, they were alright against Cardiff and should’ve put that game to bed. Final day infront of their fans without Mowbray… they might just switch it up. Luton were alright against Cov, put loads of pressure on them, but they didn’t actually carve out many chances. WBA on their day are v good, and the pressure might just get to Luton. They very nearly didn’t get the crucial win v Cov until the awful goalkeeping.

Interesting run in that’s for sure. Also I’d like Luton to go down.

If Millwall get promoted I reckon they will be the first team to not reach ten points in premier league history, although not sure if that’s true of the proper record not the sky made up one.

Darwen got eight points in the 1891-92 season. Admittedly it was two points for a win back then and they only played 26 matches.

Derby’s 2007-08 season with 11 points is the record for a three points for a win season.

One that’s always fascinated me though is Doncaster Rovers 1997-98 season. A mere 20 points when in the bottom division. The chairman tried to burn Belle Vue down as an insurance scam, the youth team trained in the stands and the fans staged sit ins on the pitch. The long read is fascinating. I thought 2000-01 was bad for us. This went a lot deeper for Donny.

Football wise I'd say Derby, as I feel they are most likely to build away from the bottom next season and we need as many crap teams around (and below us) as possible next season, given who is coming up.

For every other reason, then Luton - especially after only escaping a three year stretch working there in November, which just confirmed and compounded every horrible pre-conception of the place.

Saying that, the only person there who actually supported his local team was the first to text me congratulations after the game Saturday....

, ...so for his sake, I'll stick with Derby going down and Luton suffering some bizarre localised natural disaster and being swallowed whole back into the earth while he is out of town 😁

Brighton finished second bottom to them that season with only 35 points (Swansea, Cardiff and Hull also in the bottom 5 which shows how much things can change as that’s 4 clubs who have been the prem since) which means had Doncaster not been such a complete s**t show it’s likely Brighton would have dropped into non league. With only one up from the conference back then the whole Brighton new ground and rise to the prem might have been delayed or never happened.

Interesting read though, thanks for putting it on here, not many teams seasons manage to make Kassam look nearly reasonable.

Hull city for me, looks like it is a three horse race to avoid the drop, Hull is a stinker to get to, Luton pretty local and Preston staying up would mean a weekend up in Blackpool (hopefully).

If you have the time, the long read is here. It is astonishing.

Brighton were a basket case back in the '90s. Whilst they only muster 35 points in 1997-98, Doncaster were so far gone even getting to 30 points would have seen you comfortably clear.

The season before for Brighton could have been the killer for them. They stayed up on goals scored ('twas the rule at the time) courtesy of a draw against their fellow relegation strugglers Hereford in the last match of the season. They would have gone out of business had they lost.

Cheers, that was an entertaining if mental read, the ex chairman even managing to find the only incompetent ex member of the SAS ever to commit the stand fire arson being the highlight.

My remaining live bets are

EW trebles with Birmingham, Leeds and Doncaster (and others) for winners.
Relegation doubles, trebles and fourfolds with Plymouth, Hull, Crawley, Morecambe (and others).

some singles not yet settled / in the balance
Crawley relegation, Plymouth relegation, Hull relegation.
Will be looking nervously at the Leeds and Doncaster live scores on Saturday. I think Leeds will easily turnover Plymouth. Doncaster have a tricky away fixture to Notts County who are still in with a chance of promotion. Port Vale home to Gillingham.

For the relegations, Crawley now done as well as Plymouth effectively. Hull would be amazing to get six doubles, four trebles and the fourfolds come in.

Don't know why Skybet isn't offering me a cash-out on these. There is only one game left.

They haven't ever for me when I have done a season long accumulator, only ever won each way but still got no offer.

Luton because they still have that PL money coming in that they can filter into the team rather than a new ground. All the others will be bottom half contenders next season especially as at least 2 of the ones coming up will have money to spend albeit within the financial rules. Preston, Stoke, Hull all been paying higher wages than us which will make them vulnerable to us and others.

Portsmouth will not fancy another long trip to Hull so they might put them down. But I still fancy Lootown to drop.

If you're looking to take some profit then you could always lay the Hull relegation on an exchange.

It's strange. I think "on the day" accumulators they normally give you a cash out option. But not these season long ones.

I could lay off Hull, but unfortunately as I had losing ones as well, it was a lot of doubles and trebles at low stakes. So it's not going to be a huge sum of money so I will leave it and fingers crossed on Saturday. Would be nice to actually make some money on my season bets. Last season I think I just about broke even.

I'm of same opinion that want as many rubbish teams around us next year - Birmingham and Wrexham coming up is tough as at least one of them will be mid table+ surely. But its Luton for me because of this. They have loads of dosh from the Prem season so cant be as bad again surely so id like to see them down.
Hull next. Reading to come up through play offs, get a massive points deduction and finish bottom on -8pts

Fancy talking like that after spending half the season rooted to the foot of the table!

Relegation fodder without that Murphy bloke
To be fair, I think Colby Bishop’s return had a massive part to play. Goes to show what a difference a competent striker can make. We’d have certainly threatened the top half with someone like that.
