So, pretty self explanatory, what is YF favourite supermarket?

I'd have to edge towards Morrisons for a decent choice of fresh produce for decent products. Aspirationally, I would love to do my weekly shop at M&S. But I'm too poor for that to currently be an option.

I think most Brits simply shop at their local supermarket, I've been a Sainsbury's, Aldi, Morrisons, Tesco and even co-op man in my time.

My brief rundown

Tesco - Something quite depressing about Tesco, a tesco extra is quite incredible though, range of choice is pretty immense.
Morrisons - quality range of fresh produce, particularly fresh veg and fish, reasonable price
Asda - there is something uniquely depressing about the asda experience
Lidl/Aldi - feel similar to me, I quite like them, not great for fresh but prices are fantastic and have some cool features
Sainsbury's - becoming too expensive, often nicely laid out. Can't complain.
M&S- beautiful, paradise of a supermarket, but that comes at a cost. Love the branding and layout.
Waitrose - amusing amount of things considered "essential" expensive but always nice staff.

Tend to use Sainsbury's in the main - out of habit I guess ( agree with opening post, of late prices gone up noticably- whether I'll change main shopping habits remains as yet to be seen- besides Ive gor close to £200 unspent on my Nectat card)

Occasional foray to Waitrose, or Co op to grab a couple of bits when the need arises

Sainsbury's for a main shop as I've always enjoyed their produce and it's really easy to shop there.

Tesco / Coop for stocking up on items.

Probably my years at Nielsen's showing through, but I reckon we'll see Asda and/or Morrisons seriously struggling in the near future.

Waitrose and m& s will maintain their niche elite status, Tesco and Sainsbury's will also retain much of their base and are big enough to absorb the price cuts and defectors to Aldi and Lidl, but I'm not sure Asda and Morrisons have that loyalty or USP to fend off the newbies....

Anyway, as you were....

The big Sainsbury's is where I do most of my shopping but I have noticed the prices creeping (and occasionally rocketing) up. I've a smallish Coop and a Tesco Local close to me but unless it's just some missing ingredient I need for a particular meal I don't go to either as they're even more spenny than Sainsbury's. I need to go to the Tesco on the ring road more but there's a few things I get from Sainsbo's that they don't have so if I'm already in Sainsbury's it feels like a right hassle to also go to Tesco. Aldi/Lidl/Waitrose either never appeal to me or aren't anywhere close. I tend to buy fresh produce, spices and more exotic tinned stuff from my local Asian supermarket (who also do some rocking fresh samosas that make the trip there totally worth it)

i think what im gonna say is probably better suited for this thread but

I LOVE how we all say the big Sainsbury or the big tesco to do the big shop, i dunno why but i jus do

I dont really have a favourite, i just kinda get dragged to one and push the trolley around tbh but i like the vegan sausage rolls from the morrisons bakery

Butchers in the village for meat or the local farm shop.
Veg stall every Thurs, Fri, Sat down the pub or the local farm shop.
Same pub has a cracking deli and a fishmongers on a Wednesday.
As for dull stuff like toothpaste, soap, dry/tinned stuff etc then its online delivery - Sainsburys or Ocado.
Do occasionally venture to Makro and will get dishwasher tabs, washing powder, loo rolls in bulk.
Odds & sods its Tesco Extra at the top of the lane.

Before anyone shouts "posh snob" there is only two of us so we can be choosy. :)

Fair play Essex, you are winning at life.

Market for Fruit/Veg
Aldi for general weekly shop
...but usually a trip to Sainsbury's or Tesco for a top-up and/or a few nicer things than Aldi can supply (better beers!)

LIDL for a weekly shop, often go for fresh fruit and veg at a market. Use Sainsburys for anything needed in the week.

Decent for wine I think, and deals on bulk "standard" lagers etc, but I tend to treat myself to just a few craft beers for the weekend and they are rubbish for for that.

Aldi for most. Tesco for any bits I can't get in Aldi purely because it's next door.
Used to use Sainsburys but it was just getting too expensive as was Morrisons.
I haven't done any research to back this up but I've always believed morrisons was cheaper than Sainsbury's fairly considerably

When i worked in Reading, had the choice of most supermarkets. Asda was the go to, although the food from Morrisons was far better. They did this prawn and egg mayo baguette which was to die for... although i do wonder if i imagined it, as they stopped doing it pretty quickly and i started doubting it ever existed.
M&S food is just bland. You can keep that.

No particular favourite. Tesco is used most since it is the biggest and closest. Aldi and Lidl get plenty of use but can't really be relied upon for a full 'big shop' (especilly the Aldi at Horspath Driftway). I like 'yellow sticker chasing' in M&S to buy things for the freezer or to eat that day. M&S products at Tesco prices. I'll occasionally use Sainsburys too since I reckon their F&V is the best of any of the major supermarkets.

They are all completely pants compared to any of the major French hypermarkets though (Super-U, Intermarche, Carrefour, E. LeClerc). Proper wet fish counters, piles of local F&V where you bag up your own, huge wine selections ... When you come back from France to see New Zealand apples in a British supermarket in October, your heart sinks a bit.

We shop in Sainsbury’s because that’s the one my missus insists, price doesn’t matter because after Saturdays shop I am assuming we have won the lottery.
We actually have to drive past a huge Tesco’s extra to get to Sainsbury’s but it’s to big for me, don’t really like shopping there. Big m and S next to the big tescos that we occasionally get stuff from.
I do a separate shop for myself from an Aldi round the corner from my house, which is opposite a lidls, for lunch box stuff and my food.
I also work opposite a Morrisons so pop there for the occasional thing.
Basically live in supermarket land.

Waitrose without a doubt. Helps that my local one is getting a multi-million pound refurb, and the staff in there are tremendous too

Shamefully i have to say Asda but thats only because it's a 2 minute walk from my house, and I know where everything is in there, if I go to any other supermarket I find myself doing unnecessary laps of the place to find everything I need

Farm foods or the food warehouse bloody good they are 😂😂

Nah on a serious note we go to M&S for some bits or Tesco occasionally Sainsbury or aldi

There are 6 in my house including 4 children so it's good to shop around 😁

I like Tesco. It keeps the riff-raff out of Waitrose.. ;)
The true riff-raff supermarket is Asda. Tesco is like holidaying in Biarritz compared to Asda's Benidorm.

When I lived near a big Asda I saw:
People doing shopping in dressing gowns and slippers
People doing shopping wearing balaclavas (shoplifting)
Various different human fluids on aisles

Just a hideous experience.

I think the genius of Lidl and Aldi is they somehow manage to convince Waitrose shoppers they're making a grown up decisions to get nice food on a budget. Whenever I'm in Lidl I feel like I'm getting bargains and making use of German efficiency, when I'm in Asda I get a pang of devastation at my life circumstances.

I always try and buy British where I can because buying Peruvian asparagus or Argentinian Prawns makes me feel guilt at destroying planet earth.
