Matches What was the greatest game at the Manor?

Mine was scoring the winning penalty in the 6 aside competition on the Manor pitch which Alan Judge organised, with the final taking place at halftime during the Oxford v QPR legends Milk Cup game…last games to take place on the hollowed pitch if I remember correctly!

We were the only team to have a girl in our team (great player), and I only got a game as I took my boots along and they only had 6 players. I think the team (people) were from Thame/Aylesbury direction, but I could be wrong.

When we came off the pitch Jim Smith asked if he could sign me!!

I played in that tournament as well, our group was in the Beech Road/Cuckoo Lane corner. Quite a hot day whilst the tournament was going on, but half time in the legends game the weather drastically shifted into an epic thunderstorm.

Yes, remember it being hot in the morning/during the group games, so the storm was quite welcomed if I remember correctly!

I remember the pre game and Half-Time entertainment was great at The Manor, there would be kids 6 a side games in mini goals pre game, and relay races on the red clay/gravel around the pitch at half time, some of those kids were rapid!

I have a memory of I think, Kevin Keegan, playfully pretending to hold back the Oxford lad in a halftime relay race against a team in Newcastle colours. Was a long time ago so may be my mind playing tricks

Found some Bluey Air Force Mails at home today when I wrote to my Dad when he was in the Falklands.

I have no memory of this game at the Manor as a 8yr old, but I told him 'I went to watch Oxford vs Hull today. It was 0-0 but Hull should have scored. Alan Judge broke his leg in the second half so Mike Ford went in goal and stopped all the shots!'

Speed, strength and close control when on the ball - completely unplayable on his day. And he had a lot of those days in the nineties.

Yeah that’s also a game that sticks in my memory as one of my favourites ! I think it might have been the season Sunderland won the cup ?

No. Sunderland won the cup in 73, now in 72 there was a great game at the Manor when we were 1 nil down to them, and won 5-1, my first season and Hughie got a hat trick

Now that day I do remember. I would have been about 8 and I was in Bury Knowle Park with my brother, my nan and my mum. We could hear the (not Roker) roar coming from the Manor several times and it kept coming time after time. When we got back home we saw the score and my uncle told me they could hear the roars at The (Princes) Castle.
