We were a 4 Division side, they had just beaten West Ham at Upton Park 8-2 and were a 1st Division side full of internationals. In front of aprox 23,000 fans. What an atmosphere

For the older fan, what was the greatest Headington United game at the Manor?

Its a long list and all for different reasons.....
Leeds - carnage
Portsmouth - madness
Ipswich - more madness
Arsenal - elation & relief.
Man United - Alex who?
Villa - Semi final (combined with the away game) - noise.
Wimbledon - fog and taking the mick that we were winning 3-1 then moving along the Osler Road to see what was going on!

We think alike ... also did the same for the fog bound match lol

My favourite was the 1-0 win against Sunderland when Nobby Clarke scored a late screamer with his wrong foot.
The London Road went absolutely apesh*t.

That was the first game I ever went to, so probably should be on the list!

For me, it's the League Cup match against Man Utd in 1972, which ended 2-2 after Bobby Charlton scored in the 87th minute. They had all their big names playing; Charlton, Best, Law etc and we came within 3 minutes of beating them. We were brilliant that evening and will always remember Stepney somehow saving a bullet header from Nigel Cassidy.

Mine is the 1983 Man United trio in the League Cup. Drew 1-1 at the Manor, drew the replay 1-1at Old Trafford, then the Man U chairman offered Maxwell the opportunity to play the second replay at Old Trafford and having the gate receipts. Maxwell said “No thanks”, or words to that effect. So back to the Manor, go 0-1 down, then 2 minutes later George Lawrence equalised. Nothing happened in the second half, so into extra time. In the 104th minute Steve Biggins headed in the winner. Cue complete bedlam.

It might have been a coin toss and was offered the money by Man U, but said he didn’t need it.

These were the days when he operated Pergaman Press at the top of Headington Hill and was making a fortune, legally.
It was years before he overreached himself by acquiring the American publishing house MacMillan in a hostile takeover in 1988 and draining the pension fund.

Was he not at the replay at Old Trafford then? It was done in the boardroom after that game from what I remember. Quite possibly he was on the other end of a phone I guess, wonder who was in the room for us actually taking part in the toss?

The story I heard of the 2nd replay coin toss at Old Trafford was Gary Briggs n Matty Elliott were stood at the board room doors arms crossed.

I started singing United started Something followed by my mate and then our other friends. It just snowballed until everyone in there was singing it. The DJ cottoned on to what was happening and kept us going for over 15 minutes. Brilliant week.

Mind you I was always singing in the pubs in town, the Dolly just happened to be one of my haunts back then.

The comeback to beat Ipwich 4
3 when were 3.0 down.
So many great games.

Looking back at the Milk Cup campaigne I remember the Norwich game being the best in terms of quality of all the matches. Oxford were superb, Norwich merely excellent.

Another great game at The Manor more for a certain incident at the London Road end was my second ever game there. Guessing it was about 1972?

My first was the semi final and the second the final of the English Schoolboys Cup. I think we beat Liverpool boys in the semi final and lost on aggregate to Manchester boys in the final.

I will never forget there was this lad called Fitzie Dyce who jumped for a cross to head the ball in but smashed it in with his hand and it was disallowed.

Tickets were 10p kids and 15p for adults I think. Stood in the Beech Road and absolutely loved it. Massive crowds of over 12k as I recall.

Having only seen the last few seasons at the Manor I didn't get to witness many classics, but the Chelsea F.A. Cup game always sticks out (despite the result!) - always felt it was probably the closest the atmosphere got for me to those 80s matches I missed.

Round about the same time Fitzie Dyce destroyed Wood Farm junior school in the MANOR CUP FINAL at the Manor.
The whole school went , remember being in the London Road & we was all singing you'll never take the MANOR brilliant memories...

Absolutely loved The Manor, so many special memories!

Two standout games were our 1993/94 season fa cup games against Leeds and Chelsea.
Started both games so dominantly, before getting pegged back against Leeds, but winning the replay, through a Magilton cracker, then Mike Ford devastatingly missing a penalty right at the end of the game against Chelsea

God I miss that place!

The Manor. What a stadium. Yes it was sh*t but boy did I love the place. When you say the Manor, the hairs on the back of your neck and your arms stand up. Talk to fans of other clubs and they remember the Manor. Proper stadium Proper memories, I'm so glad I experienced it.

Mine was scoring the winning penalty in the 6 aside competition on the Manor pitch which Alan Judge organised, with the final taking place at halftime during the Oxford v QPR legends Milk Cup game…last games to take place on the hollowed pitch if I remember correctly!

We were the only team to have a girl in our team (great player), and I only got a game as I took my boots along and they only had 6 players. I think the team (people) were from Thame/Aylesbury direction, but I could be wrong.

When we came off the pitch Jim Smith asked if he could sign me!!
