General What video games have you been playing recently ?

106 million views so far. Was explaining to my girlfriend last night that I believe this is genuinely the biggest gaming news ever.

All but confirms that the PS6 will be all digital. I also think this was fast tracked to help keep PS6 costs down. Sony are the biggest manufacture of Blu Ray discs and players, so I assume this will fast track the end of physical movies too.

Asha Sharma has the biggest open goal now for Xbox. Make Project Helix compatible with physical media and everyone's on your side. However, I expect them to follow suit.

I'm mainly 90% digital now anyway across all my platforms, but I believe physical should always be an option for preservation and for better deals! Call of Duty Infinite Warfare which released in 2016 is available on ebay for £10 but £60 on the PSN store! Sony now have a monopoly and we will be forced to pay their prices.

I must admit I was a bit 'meh' about this news, physical disks have been nothing more than installation disks for ages. Even if you buy the disk the chances are you'll need a massive 'day one' patch as well. When was the last generation that actually played games straight off the media? XBOX 360/PS3? As soon as they became installation disks this was always going to happen.

But you are right, the choice should really always be there.

Switch and Switch 2 still have game cards. In Tears of The Kingdom there were several glitches that allowed you to collect hundreds of items / arrows / gems. But you had to leave your switch unconnected to the internet or there would be an auto-download of a patch.

Current complaint is gamekey cards which allow you to sell the card but it still requires a download.

Also i read that hundreds of films that people bought via PlayStation have been taken away as the license expired.

I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Never played the original despite it being widely regarded as the best in the series and a rare good game from Ubisoft. Only played a couple of hours so far but it's really good and the story seems very entertaining. Prior to that, I played Doom The Dark Ages which was a step back from Eternal - combat lacked fluidity and arenas didn't have any verticality. Boring guns, weak music, poor level design and the removal of glory kills just made it feel cheap and lazy.

You’d think they’d have learnt from when Xbox said they were doing this and rapidly backtracked when gamers were up in arms.

Digital only is the future, but who’s going to pay 70quid for a game that you don’t own?

Have recently been given a Nintendo Switch (the first model, not the Switch 2). What games are worth downloading on it?

So far I've gone for the N64 and Supernintendo packages, plus a few other vintage games such as the Tomb Raider* collection.

Any suggestions?

*I went to university with a guy called Tom Brader, who got called Lara Croft.

Oh mate so many great games.
Mario Wonder for some old school Mario with a twist
Mario Odyssey
Zelda Breath of the Wild
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (million times better than BOTW but play that first)
Umm many more will need to look on mine to remember

Try out Escape The Backrooms, A Storied Life Tabitha and Loddlenaut. if you and some others could buy ten million copies of each, I could probably buy the club and build the Stadium.

Ta.

As an avid XCom player, I’m looking forward to Star Wars Zero Company that gets released later this month, hopefully.

It's a great game. You want to also check out another one of mine - Star Wars Galactic Racer. Now that is awesome!!

How cool is that! But then footy games peaked with Matchday 2 and Kick Off 2. Honourable mention for Emlyn Hughes Soccer.
I really like Bit Map Books. CRPG, C64 and Amiga editions are a great rewind to younger days.

Finished GTA 4 and it's DLC. Have to say I enjoyed the DLC much more than the base game. I liked how it all connected too.

Currently playing F1 2026 DLC. Really enjoying this. I didn't play F1 2025 and the battery management aspect makes it an interesting and fun challenge.

September/October/November is approaching quickly which means I'll be focusing on Wolverine, FIFA, COD and GTA. I might try and squeeze in 007 First Light before then but it will be a push.

This weekend I'll be trying the MW4 open beta on Switch 2. First COD on Nintendo in 13 years! So far looking at videos it looks a good port. I normally play COD on the PS but I might be tempted to buy it on Switch 2 depending how the beta goes.

Anyone watching the GTA Netflix extended look tomorrow?

I've picked up Oblivion remaster on Switch 2. Loved it back in 2006, so nice to revisit it again 20 years later.

That Netflix show was quite dull. GTA is going to print money and be the biggest entertainment launch of all time, but that wasn't the way to show it off.....

I use a game rental company so tend to get through a lot of games.
Plus I always have old favourites I play CoD, Fallout 4.
I also use GamePass alot.
Current faves have been 007, Cricket 26, Solar Punk
