General What video games have you been playing recently ?

My Mother-In-Law used to work for Melbourne House. Now THAT was a proper software house. The Way of the Exploding Fist, The Hobbit, Starion, Fighting Warrior. Spectrum Classics. Well, apart from Fighting Warrior, which was a bit Meh.

Fighting warrior the sword fighting game? Bit like Barbarian but without Maria Whittaker and Wolf from Gladiators on the cover?

Yeah kind of. Only had about 4 moves. Looked great though.

Googled it and had it as I remember the cover, other than the fact it involved swords no real memory of it so guessing it only got played a couple of times. Spectrum games were so cheap and the computer came with so many that you had a fair few that you only played a few times.

Cant remember if I said before, but back in the CM days, I recall seeing Jamie Brooks coming back from injury because "one of his b*****s fell off". I thought I was seeing things but came across a reddit post or alike that said the same thing a few weeks ago :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, it was a gag that one of the developers had thrown in (in pretty bad taste, it has to be said, because he was fighting for his life with Guillain–Barré at the time) because they didn't have any regular coding to cover a player coming back from such a rare and horrific disease, and then they forgot to remove it prior to release.

Which means it must have been ~2002/03.

'02/03 is correct! I wonder if I can find a copy of the game and grab a screenshot but yeah I remember thinking at the time it was pretty poor of them.

I wonder what Jamie's thoughts would be. Personally, having had an ongoing medical issue for half my life now (though admittedly nowhere near as bad as he had) I'd find it quite funny to hear a computer game had replaced my real condition with a claim that I'd lost a bollock, especially if it had been a coding error.

The Hobbit. My first ever Speccy game that

One of the wilder things that were thrown around in FM, was that at some point in 2050, a news article would pop up to say that Aliens had visited Earth,. These aliens grew to love football but were 9ft tall, thus opening up some wild "re-gens"

Not sure who was smoking what but it never made it in.

Anyway, who's spotted some of the Easter Eggs in the trailer and game art?

Recently completed Expedition 33 which was mind-blowingly good, possibly the best story I've ever played in a game and the music alongside was just incredible. Also play dedicate time to Apex Legends and PUBG to de-stress. Looking forward to BF6 as heard some great stuff about it. Also have an ongoing season of Championship Manager 01/02 where I am currently in year 2068 and haven't skipped a single season!

Expedition 33 is on my list, I haven't started it purely because I think it might be a massive time sink. I'll get round it at some point.

It's not as long as most RPG's are, I completed with about 20 hours game time. It is the producers first attempt at a game (which for it to be so good is impressive in itself) so think they went for looks and atmosphere over length which was a very good thing in my opinion.

Currently playing:
PS5: not played on it in months and months.
XBOX: was playing Atomfall, which I'd been looking forward to for so long... not really grabbing me as I thought it would. Will revisit at some point.
Switch 2: Mario Kart was boring as anything. Played, finished and loved Fantasy Life I. Quirky games like this seem to be grabbing me more and more as I get older.
Have since bought Donkey Kong Bananza, and that's ok in small doses, but I'm already finding it a bit repetitive and boring after a few hours play.

Looking forward to the new Borderlands...

I got a few hours into Atomfall, but then haven't touched it for a while. Do like the premise though. Really must try it again at some point. Same with Starfield, which I started with and then abandoned.

Yes, Starfield has been OK, just rather like taking small bites out of a succulent pie and then it goes cold before you've gobbled the lot down. Will microwave it back to temp and give it another go at some point (before the next big thing comes out).

Other than games, has anyone started Alien Earth? Seems good to me.

Pop Quiz, what does it actually mean? why is SEGA called SEGA?
Well being a SEGA fan I know this. I suppose it should really be written SeGa though.

One company name I didn't know was an acronym was Asics. That stands for 'Anima Sana In Corpore Sano', which is a Latin phrase meaning 'A sound mind in a sound body', which is ideal for a running brand.

Correct, SEGA's original name was Service Games, it was set up by 5 Americans post war to entertain the GI's stationed in Japan, Korea and wider Pacific Theatre, became a Japanese company 15 years later when the original coin operated business was dissolved for tax evasion

Hi all first time poster here, as someone who’s always been a massive gamer and uses it to escape real life ones I’ve been playing recently is sea of thieves which is a brilliant and quite a relaxing game unless you play on pc then unfortunately like a lot of online games it’s full of hackers

I had to stop playing that.. found it far too much fun dropping anchor in the middle of the ocean, or waiting until everyone disembarked, and then raise anchor and sail off.

It is such a fun game especially if you can get a good group to play with but you can easily spend way to many hours playing it without realising

Just finished Breath of the Wild. September - January are normally my COD and FIFA months, but I think I have time to squeeze in Astro Bot before that starts. It will be the first game I play on the PS5 Pro since I got it at launch.
