As a long term Bob Mould and Husker Du fan , I also went to the Grand last night and Sugar were really good.

Not only was it a civilised time, I could walk to Clapham Junction and be home before 11pm.

I worked at Bob’s current label until I retired at the end of last year and he’s a lovely man.

Being a man of a certain age Husker Du were one of those bands that completely changed music for me. It pleases me no end to hear you say your worked for the label and Bob Mould is a decent man (Grant Hart - RIP).

Those three records in a row of New Day Rising, Flip Your Wig and Candy Apple Grey are ridiculous. Totally astonishing. 1985 - the miracle year.

If I had to choose one Husker Du album it would be- maybe controversially - be Flip Your Wig.

Thanks, I was straight on to the Grant Nicholas cover - good to see him involved with it. Always had a soft spot for Feeder, just an uncomplicated Indie Rock band.

weekend just gone I was up in Aberdeen DJ-ing at Twisted Weekend 4 , on the Saturday two Scottish bands were part of the line-up, Titans of Clash Reggae and old school Funk inspired Bohemian Monk Machine .
Twisted Weekend is a celebration of differing mobo, from an international DJ line-up

both were rather good too , Titans were 4 musicians ( keyboardist doubling up on Sax when required) fronted by a younger livewire female singer ( Siobhain) , A mix of their own original songs / tunes, with a couple of covers thrown in with the bands own reimagined style. Urban reggae with a Scottish-ska flavour

Bohimean Monk Machine consisted of four skinny guys, who visually wouldntve looked out of place in an emo metal set up, fronted by a Commitments sized front man. Looks can be be deceptive, drawing heavy inspiration from Sly & Family Stone, early 70s James Brown and Norman Whitfield era Temptations, they layed down some seriously wicked funky grooves, two of their original tracks, Losing It and Afterparty particularly impressed. As for the singer, he absolutely oozed charisma and had a stunning vocal range too. Only one cover ( of sorts) in their set was an extended medley, given a banging BMM makeover, of snippets of classic and not-so obvious /well known James Brown numbers

The venue for the Saturday extravaganza was The Tunnels - one of the coolest places Ive had the pleasure to DJ in during my 50 years+ of spinning rare soul & funk records, awesome sound, fabulous venue in a seedy knda way

Last week the anniversary of Dad's passing, and I gave that song (both this cover and the original) a good listen. Like you say, it really does do a great job of it.

hey gang!! so a while back everyone was super kind about the band i put here who i released called steatopygous...teenage kids who i think the world of and paid to record and then made tapes and records for and now i'm taking them on tour and we're coming to oxford on sunday july 12th...show's at the library thru divine schism and we're playing with mumbles who are completely awesome btw...anyone who's around and wants to see teenage kids sing songs about misogyny and male violence while chatting to the merch guy about oufc come down...



and for anyone around the country here are the rest of the dates...



be super cool to meet some of y'all and they really are the greatest thing ever...



PS. if you do come then just so you know where i stand...i'm disappointed we went down but excited to see games with more than 30% possession and hopefully more goals so i'm not totally broken...not convinced by MB but totally feel he should be given a chance to see what he can do...fave player ever is joey (obvs - my son is called joe after our greatest ever player)...and fave player now is cam bran...heartbroken i never get to see WL in a yellow shirt again....xx

Just snapped up the last Steatopygous tape. Great stuff. Hope to be there on the 12th!

Went to the British Airways ARC at Olympia last night.
Oxford could definitely do with a similar venue.
Approx 1000 stalls seats on an unraked floor, seats can probably be removed for certain events.
Slightly raised semi circular standing area at rear of stalls with bar along the back.
A 3 sided balcony.
