General What Have You Been Listening To Lately? 🎵

Today;s listening - some early stuff by Blowzabella and the new Cardiacs release 'LSD':

I've got tickets to see Cardiacs next March - only got into them shortly after Tim Smith fell ill, so never seen them before. I'm aware it won't be quite the same as before, but still had to be done. Good to see a few pondies on the forum.

I've also got a ticket for the London date. My favourite ever band so going to be very bittersweet. But the 'new' LP is great and I'm looking forward to seeing it performed live. First saw them at the Co-op Hall in 1990 I think.

I think I saw them at the old CFE a bit before that! I wasn't into them TBH but the tracks I've heard from the new album sound good.

Got Super Furry Animals tix this morning - time to wish away the next 8 months!
I'm really sad I can't go - the London date clashes with Shindig Festival. My only hope is they announce a Birmingham date but I think that's very unlikely.

I went for Manchester (London clashes with a OUFC home game which I also hope to attend in a general trip out of Cornwall that week).
Wish I had seen Cardiacs back in the day, though not sure I would have loved them so much as a teenager. Since discovering them they have certainly informed my music taste more than any other band in my life. Really like several of the William D Drake albums too (including the one referred in your user name, but especially Rising of the Lights), as well as Spratleys, Shrubbies, Sidi Bou Said etc etc

They've added another London date on the 23rd, but likely to still be a clash I imagine?

Yes, the clash with the Blackburn match is unfortunate but needs must as I wonder if this will be the last ever chance to catch them live, albeit without Tim.
I love those Bill Drake LPs too, and the bands you mention, unsurprisingly. I'd recommend the new LP by The Plan, released on Friday by Oxford's very own Divine Schism, as it includes some nice Cardiacs wonkiness in parts.

Bit late to the party I know, but I fkin love the local music scene. Been to loads of gigs recently featuring local bands (plus the Charlbury Riverside Fest, of course). Seen Kanadia at the O2 (supported by Dolly Mavies), Emma Hunter at the Bully (supported by Pet Twin), Jodie & the Jerms at Florence Park Community Centre (supported by Cedars of Lebanon), Dolly Mavies at the Old Fire Station (supported by The Bobo and Pet Twin), and Brickwork Lizards at the Bully, as well as Balkan Wanderers in the Covered Market and at the Harcourt Arms. So many great bands and so many great venues.

October 23 - not many tickets left for Stone Foundations first ever Oxford show ...

Thinking about going to this but, like so many other gigs I want to go, the ticket price puts me off. Having said that, I have just shelled out for the EMF vs Jesus Jones at the O2 (mainly at the missus's insistence). Just hope the Es are as good as they used to be

Travelling to Bristol or Manchester (or anywhere outside Oxford really) is a bit of a no for me due to the costs involved, unless it's a band that doesn't gig very often and is absolutely close to my heart. Having seen Kanadia recently, I'm going to have to give these a miss

Yeah saw that earlier, shame they weren't doing Manchester 8 days earlier as we are up there for 2 days for an October Drift gig.

The band are doing a livestream tonight at 8pm on Instagram as well, will be tuning into that.

I'm going to this later this month, any drum and bass fans out there? I cannot WAIT to experience the full Valve soundsystem. I went to a reggae night in Sheffield with the Sinai soundsystem and it was incredible, so so loud and clear.

Wanted to go to that but was struck down by a bad case of Can'tbearseditis
I looked at it as well (I adore their debut album), but didn't because I'm going to Birmingham to see Feeder on Saturday night, and I'm getting too old to be doing 2 gigs in 3 days... :ROFLMAO:
