Weight Loss Support Thread

Weighed in for month 2 today and lost 13lbs since July 1st.
So 29lbs in 2 months is a good start to my 100lb target.
BMI down from 41.3 June 1st to 37.2

Roll on August.
That’s a fantastic start and congratulations to you. I did something similar (from a similar BMI) 2 years ago. Now at 26.5 and not quite finished. I found that a. it does slow down a bit when you get down to reasonable size b. I needed to intersperse cutting with short periods of maintenance (and a slight upticks) c. that altering calorie composition as well as total intake made a big difference and d. being mindful of more than just the scales has been really important (skin elasticity, teeth/mouth health, joint mobility etc etc all need watching when dumping fat). Keep it going!

Good advice there. Thank you.

Month 3 weigh in today. Dropped another 9lbs in August. Lost 38lbs in 3 months now. BMI now 35.9

To my surprise this matched my calorie deficit.

Lots to do and more tools to use at my disposal with the obvious one being to increase exercise and record it alongside calorie intake so that the deficit comes through more than one source. Also having become a bit more mobile there is no point in wasting that new found benefit on sitting around all day.

Not sure if anyone on this thread is using weight loss medication..

One of my good Ox mates started the injections a few months ago and has seen some fantastic results. That coupled with another mate who’s done well on wegovy tablets, led me to the decision to give it a go.

Am 49, was slowly putting on weight and was really struggling to shift it. I go to gym twice a week, occasional run etc. Also not drunk booze for almost 8 years. So have been trying!! I’m 5ft 8, got to 15st 10 and had just had enough..

Anyway 6 weeks on the lowest dose wegovy pills, along with more sensible food decisions and same exercise plan and I’m down 10lbs. Feel so much better..

A couple of mates have said ‘what happens when you stop the pills’, and I’ll cross that bridge when I get there..hopefully in November. I’m hoping I keep going with some of my better new habits when I do come off them. It’s good to feel I’ve got a chance, was really struggling.

Anyway, however people have done it, well done and keep it up!

Fantastic work. Well done.

Glad to hear you are on the lowest dose and have a target to get off it. I have relatives who have used the jabs and have just done a massive yo-yo and then rinse/repeat.

At your age/weight you have made a fantastic decision and have a plan by the sounds of it.

Eating that sensible food is the key. The fact that you are already doing the exercise will always help. Totally hear what you are saying about giving yourself a chance. Just stick to it and your plan. The non weight loss benefits like sleeping better and having better fitting clothes will follow and create a new positive circle for you to live within.

I've lost 2.5 stone in a year and feel great for it. I was very relieved to have less insulation at points over the summer! 🥵

May feel it in the winter though! 🥶

Its been frustratingly slow for me but at least it's coming off. Hoping to lose my final 12lbs to hit my target by Xmas by really locking in. The kids are back at school this week so I can get back in a routine of exercise with some dietary changes.

Ah nice update! Sounds like you are really locked in to the process now. Takes a few months to get into the rhythm I find.

I’ve found that consistent daily exercise beats hero days in the longer term, and has some pretty surprising impacts on your endurance in a fairly short time frame - especially if you are also eating well too.

I currently walk for 2 hours a day up and down some decent hills on work days and then ride bikes and swim and hike on days off. It’s become an absolutely essential part of my life, and one that I prioritise now above most other things. Like you said, why waste the benefit?

Well........ lost about 3kg post op. Hospital food was gorgeous but I was only in 2 days and you don`t really fancy much until the anesthesia is rinsed out.

Post op painkillers give you constipation, you get laxatives for that, by Day 3 I double dosed .... that cleared it.

Nearly 4 weeks gone and walking about 3/4k steps a day, had the first physio class and carrying on with similar exercises at home.

Will weigh in in the next couple of days.

Still not weighed in but that isn`t the be all and end all.

Progress post op was very fast for 3 or 4 weeks, the hardest part that I`m still struggling with, is "mindful walking" and keeping things level.

Having walked wonky for a prolonged period breaking the anticipation/limp/step takes conscious effort to stop.

Step count is increasing, activity is progressing, the crutches are in the loft and just take a walking pole when we are out and about.

I too have recently reached my target weight after losing 1.5 stone on Slimming World. As an 'Old Gal' of 68, I am the lightest I have been in 30 years. I still get weighed every week as it keeps me focused. Well done to every single one of you that has lost weight, however way you have achieved it. Getting compliments on how you look makes it all worth it!

I lose a few pounds, then gain half a stone.
Then lose half a stone, then gain a few pounds.
Then I lose a few pounds, then gain a stone.
Then lose a stone, then gain a few pounds.
Then lose a few pounds, and gain half a stone....

Keep trying, at least you are giving it a proper go.

For me it's about finding a way that works in the long term, I'm guilty of looking for too many short term fixes previously.

I read an article the other day that basically said..whatever your lifestyle, if you can do one or two reasonably regular things that make a difference then over time things should get better. e.g. if you are not doing any exercise then try and do a couple of walks a week, if you are eating 3 takeaways a week then try and just have one. Small changes over time can equal big benefits!

Been there so many times. About 3 years ago my son announced he was getting married. I made myself a promise to lose 3 stone in a year. Always said I will start next week. Then it was start the week after and then the week after.

By the time the wedding came around I had actually put on a stone. Within 18 months I put on another stone and a half. I think I finally got to the stage where I truly believed my weight would put me in an early grave.

Every little pain and niggle I have put down to being overweight. I didn’t believe any of this could be reversed but it can. Self belief, determination, will power are all needed in different amounts but praise from others, encouragement and support are probably more important.

That is fantastic !
I think so many set out to lose weight but relatively few get to their target weight which I know can be a real stretch.

Heard yesterday that our childcare arrangements have fallen through until October half term which means I can't do my morning walk or go to the gym or for a swim during my lunch break which is my routine that worked. In the evenings my wife goes for a swim/gym and I don't want to impact that as she's dropped 3.5 stone herself.

Will need to really ensure the diet is on plan and snatch whatever exercise I can until things are sorted. Very disappointing.

You sound a very determined person from this post. This sounds like a short term hitch which you have already looked for a solution. I'm sure you will stick to the plan and achieve your targets. Keep going and best of luck.

Good luck in working something out.

Have you tried a 15 minute HIIT workout session? They can be done in your front room (or any room!) and it is only 15 minutes.

You can find lots of HIIT sessions on line that you could follow. It may be an option for the limited amount of time that you have. All the best 👍

See what changes between loss and gain.
If it`s bad choices, like we all do, then moderate them.
Likewise if you are making good choices when losing stick with them..... and keep away from a scale obsession.
If you weigh in weekly drop it to fortnightly.... two losses will help the mindset.
Stick with it.

I'll echo these sentiments, the scales are your enemy. Weight loss is a long term goal, and weight will naturally fluctuate. I wouldn't be doing it more than once a month.

Weight is one metric I never track, it has always been an irrelevant measurement in my eyes. A better way is to notice how you are feeling in clothes. If you have a shirt that is a bit snug, use that as your control - the aim is to make it feel looser. If you are using buckle 3 on your belt, aim to be using buckle 4.

May we'll give those a go.

And the best feeling of all is taking that belt to Timpsons and asking for a couple of extra holes to be punched in it.

See now I fundamentally disagree with the ‘scale is your enemy’ position. I do realise that I’m in the minority though. I weigh myself every morning. Same time, same routine (I’ll spare you the details but it’s shortly after a black coffee 💩) and it really really works for me. I get to see the fluctuations that exercise, glycogen, food etc etc have on my weight every morning, and there’s absolutely no doubt that I have a better understanding of how the way I eat and exercise and rest affects me day to day. Scale up a touch? Zero problem. Keep going. Scale lurching down a bit. Zero problem keep going. Find both readings pretty motivating in their own ways.

I'm back on this journey again (again)...but deliberately starting a bit slowly and trying to form better habits rather than go all-in for a fortnight then get annoyed at the the first bump in the road and give up as usual.

So aiming to avoid snacking and sweet stuff as much as possible, and having good breakfast/lunch with a normal dinner.

Big thing for me is beers, so time to cut out the ritual trip to buy some nice craft ales every Friday "for the weekend" and aim for minimal/no home-drinking. Certainly don't drink loads at home, but more than I should, and a few friends have had good success with weight-loss recently and cutting out the home beers has been a big part of it for both of them...

I really like my weekend beer! I’m trying to keep that but eat less crisps and chocolate and go to the gym. Not bothered about weight loss so much as being a bit nimbler and less creaky.

To be fair I (often) failed on Friday evening, couple of glasses of wine to "wind down", nice day Saturday, pop to one of the village pubs couple of pints, snacks, maybe a meal.... sometimes same again Sunday............... then p*ssed off on Monday because the previous Mon-Friday midday had been blown away.

Stopped it pre & post surgery and not gone back to the same levels, still walk to the pub but its 1 pint and then a blackcurrant & soda. No snacks.

And walk back not get the bus! :ROFLMAO:

Fridays are the key day in the week I believe. It’s easy to get on the train on a Monday morning, less so at the end of the week when you feel like you’ve earned some sort of reward. All of the weightloss cutting periods I’ve done that have been successful involve going to the pub etc for soda water/Diet Coke etc not beer.

My mates gave me the nickname of bubbles the last time as I’d be drinking lime soda whilst they were climbing into pints 😂
