1-0 England for me. Keep it tight and get through to the SF.

Can't see there being only one goal in it. England's porous defence vs Haaland, Norwegian's lack of pace at the back vs Bellingham?

2-0 England, no real reason for that prediction. Hopefully it kicks off at 10pm our time, but just had a little afternoon power nap in case it doesn’t, Tommy Tuchel would be proudly of my preparation.

Forecast is looking much better than it was.

Don’t get me wrong - it’s going to be hotter than hell, but a thunderstorm delaying kickoff looks much less likely now than it did earlier in the week.

As for the result? No idea. I feel more confident about this one than the Mexico game…..which probably means that England are going to go and screw it up……

They have some very good players but England have some as well and overall the better team. Doesn’t mean we will win, it’s knock out football but a little bit of confidence is ok. Well until the game starts and then that instantly evaporates and I am calling for anything in our half to be cleared long.

We’re the better side but when the opponent has one of the most impactful players in world football and get something from him in every match, it’s far from straight forward. We almost need to decide what kind of chance we’re happy for him to have because he’ll get them whatever we do. Annoyingly, we could do everything right and he still produce, he’s just a total one-off.

But we have the best player in the tournament so far and Tuchel is a world class coach which gives me great optimism and if we can be as clinical and committed as we were in Mexico then we’ll get this done.

3-1 England.

We was all expecting Brazil at this stage.

If you said we would be playing Norway in the quarters (before the tournament started) you’d take it.

But they look very dangerous.

Which player is going to blast it over the bar so we lose the shoot-out? My money's on Rice

There’s very little chance he makes it through 120 mins. Hasn’t looked 100% comfortable all tournament. I’d worry about us if we can’t get it done in the 90.

But to play the game, my money would be on Pickford!

Well it's the quarters isn't it. We will probably trip up, but have something happen in the game which we can moan about for the next 20 years as well. It's the England way.

After Brazil and Germany we have played in the most World Cup quarter finals, as that’s not true of the semi finals you might well have a point.

When I got the notification that you had quoted me, I was hoping for an inspiring "it's coming home" type of post, not one confirming my fears...
