International News War Room: Iran v USA

They are mates - Trump's folly will raise hundreds of billions for Russia in weaker sanctions, and result in a reopening of Putin's oil trade.

Simultaneously, the world has turned its attention from Ukraine and they will get less and less in support funding, strengthening Russia.

Putin himself couldn't have done a better job if he was the President of the US.
So his two biggest allies in Maduro and ayatollah khamenei get taken out After Assad was removed undoubtedlly a big win for the us (and had to flee to Russia) and his other major ally in Cuba is blockaded and that counts as Mates???

It seems the Russians are now actively helping Iran with targeting via their satellites. I thought everyone was saying Putin and Trump were mates we effectively have another proxy war between the US and Russia here. They are looking to send attack drones to Iran too. That should at least stretch them in Ukraine (as i assume they dont have spare capacity.

Didn't say they were mates. Said that Trump was under the influence of Putin. Interesting the Trump has let Russian oil (which is in theory blacklisted) be delivered to Cuba (which is under blockade).

Anyway ....... DT says the talks are going well and he has offered them "open the Straits of Hormuz" or "Kharg Island won`t be there anymore."

Go hard or go home.

Suggestions that he wants the US to seize the Iranian enriched Uranium stockpile which is situated deep in the country. Special Forces have been flooding in on top of those publically announced apparently.

Sounds like suicide . If they know where it is there’s a possibility that it’s under ground and very well protected. Even the Israel’s would go in . Anyway hasn’t this war been won at least 3 or 4 times over the last few weeks.

It wouldn't even be a quick process. They would have to hold the ground for a good length of time to allow the safe storage of the material before it could be moved.

Expect to see things happen over the long weekend, he's got 4 days of the markets being closed.

Only 3 days in the US, I think. Wall Street gets Good Friday off, but they're back in for Easter Monday......

(most of the rest of us don't even get that! Stupid separation of church and state.......)

Trump started this war against Iran and now thinking about pulling the US out of NATO . That’s what kind of despot he is much worse than Putin or the fat fuk from North Korea .
God help us all !

Thrown his toys out of his pram again. Having yet another titty tantrum.

So if they pull out of NATO, does that mean they could be kicked out of bases in these countries?

Possibly but it wont happen, how would we kick the worlds largest superpower out of the uk? And secondly they support a lot of uk jobs by being here. And thirdly we probably still need them untill we in Europe are prepared to spend 1.2 trillion a year on defense in a semi sane manner and pan eurooean defense spending hasnt been sane or sensible in my lifetime. Too much self interest from the individual countries

The telegraph nails it https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/01/why-nato-will-be-so-exposed-without-the-us/

We are dependent on the US because of 30 plus years of choosing to be so. Every predident since Clinton has banged on about European defense spending. We dont have the capacity because we prioritise other things. Well in a survival of the fittest world we are about to see how that plays out. The first sea lord said we wouldnt be ready for any war till the end of the decade thats with us ramping up

Our armed forces are a shadow of the ones i joined 20 years ago. It is a national embarrasment.

And i certainly dont mean the brave people who join to fight (which is what our armed forces primary role is) often without adequate equipment. I mean the civil servants and politicians who have underfunded them inadequately housed them and procured badly.

Trump was bailed out by Russian oligarchs from one of his six bankrumptcies before he became a politician at a time when his friendship with Epstein was at it's peak. This is why the Russian state worked for a Trump victory for decades. He is a Russian asset. The USA have an emargo of oil imports to Cuba in order to soften up that country before it is attacked. Russia have sent an oil tanker to help their allies. When asked about it Trump said 'it's Russia so I don't mind that'. Bear in mind that one of his justifications for attacking Venezuela was that he was angry that they were supplying Cuba with oil.

All very easy when the Yanks are footing the bill.

And people say that once Trump goes it will all return to normal, I actually don't think it will, Trump may be extreme in most of his views, but on Europe he is right, we've been riding the US coat-tails for decades. I don't see a Democrat actually disagreeing with him on the need for Europe to stop freeloading, after all, a stronger Europe will only benefit the US when said Democrat isn't also throwing their toys out of their pram.

He's an out of control nutter.

Ooh, we'll have a little military adventure in the middle-east.. ooh, that didn't go according to plan.

If you get oil through the straights, go and defend it yourselves!

a**e hole.

Absolutely. I dont think it will either. Europe is a rich continent they should be defending themselves and exercising hard power on the world stage the americans I have spoken to are not massive fans of European freeloading and relying on the US military machine. Kamala Harris said there would have to be more Europeans looking after their own security and china was the main threat to the US before the last election. Some of the biggest critics on European defence spending was Obama and democratic presidents

The first bit may or may not be true. the second part is absolutely about being a soverign country whether that is defending your undersea cables from Russian actions through to keeping ship[ping routes open by force if needed. If we want to embrace globalism (and i'm on record as not being a fan) then that means extending power to protect assets you rely on outside of your country. And for many countries that rely on oil through the Strait of Homuz this means now securing it with military force.

Well fuk my old boots energy prices to soar in July by at least 7% due to blockade of the straights by Iran .
The rich get richer the poor get poorer again , I can only see the inevitable, a world war , God help us all .

Your regular contortions in continually defending Trump are ludicrous. So you think his being ‘an out of control nutter’ is up for debate! I don’t think there’s any doubt about it and can think of many more powerful adjectives to use. The man doesn’t have a decent bone in his body. (I don’t include his bone spurs in that assertion). And the countries that rely on oil shipped through the Strait of Hormuz now have to secure it by military force? In other words, through no fault of their own, they have to clear up Trump’s mess, whilst he walks away from the situation. Great contortion on your part.

You're the one who's partisan not me. I have critisised Trump many times before (and do in this post) you are the one with Trump derrangement disorder, you are the myopic one on him with the singular viewpoint. I just despise the Iranian regime and either a country is safe in which case there are loads of Iranians in this country who have claimed asylum who can return home or it isnt in which case i support regime change to ensure it is safe to go home. I just see that the biggest threat to the UK and the world is from islamic terrorism (after climate change) and Iran is a state sponsor of that.

I think Trumps plan has been poor here it was clear boots were required on the ground earlier. I think a plan for opening the Strait of Homuz has been poor. It was also clear decapitation was not going to work on a decentralised regime. They and this is a critism of European powers as well have failed to grasp modern warfare with drones and drone interceptors. His irritation with Nato for not helping is not helpful and looks silly. If NATO powers are unwilling to secure shipping lanes so run short of petrol that that is a problem for them not the US (the largest producer of oil). Oil supply has always been sporadic look how the Russian oil was cut off countries need to have their own sources of energy and be self sufficient (in our case wind power sorry Trump).

The UK and Europeans are claiming today that they are being "held to hostage by Iran" closing the Strait. These are wealthy nations with huge military spending potential yet they seem so impotent to do anything about it. European powers of past wouldn't have just accepted this they would have tried to force these shipping lanes open.
