International News War Room: Iran v USA

The base near me has been here since the 1930s if you moved in pre then i might have some sympathy if you got hit. No its a risk i take living so close.

Im not blaming the kids i blaming the schools owner (possibly Iran government). Military facilities should be kept separate. Note it’s only a school right next to a base thats been hit. They arent firing on random schools or buildings like the Iranian regime are.
‘I’m not blaming the kids’ - that’s very good of you. What a ridiculous statement.

It’s almost as if you’re trolling people for a reaction but sadly I think you’re just quite ignorant on this matter and see these poor children as ‘collateral damage’ to quote Madeleine Albright.

Your penultimate sentence is a disgrace - ‘it’s only a school right next to a base that’s been hit’ - shame on you.
Your reading and comprehension isnt the best. They arent hitting random schools away from bases was my point. Not that is only a school.

He’s emphatically not blaming the US government though for actually bombing the school.

Also it seems to be mostly non iranians so upset about this war on the iranian regeime. I dont know many. But the one female iranian i know supports it allong with their friends. A couple of hundred civilians wer involved in that miss strike an accident. The iranian regeime has killed 10s of thousands this year. She snd i would suggest iranians fear their government more than the US.

I know a bunch of Iranians. They want a different government and they don’t want their country bombed to pieces. The US has failed on both these objectives.

My opinion is simple the us should not bomb schools. That isnt in doubt. It also is true that military facilities shouldnt be near schools or hospitals or be a repurposed part of a military facility. This looks like a regrettable mistake these happen in war.

If you can show me a regular pattern of civillian infrastructure not near military bases or bejng used by IRGC as cover then i will accept we have an issue that needs dealing with.

Civillians die in war its sad. It is a cost of war that we should try to limit. At the moment i see iranian regime as more of a threat to the world and iranisns thsn the US

Ok. So not said a lot on this.

Firstly I don't agree with Iran regime but I also don't agree with China, Saudi, Russia, N.KoreA, Qatar and lots of others however unless as a planet we agree what makes a good government/regime then we don't get involved in violence. Sanctions, other ways fine .

Next this is Trumpys war he agreed with Netanyahu so let them get on with it.

Trump will soon face issues in US re costs, fuel costs, food costs etc... he made big play in election re reducing cost of goods.

On Radio 5 a shipping expert and region expert were saying if Iran wants look at high fuel prices till 2027 at earliest. It's been Irams plan from day 1 , most peps questioned why bomb your neighbours but it was to create economic conflict

I think everyone agrees that the Iran regime is despicable, but you do sense that trump thought this would be like Venezuela a quick take out with little consequence and is turning out to be anything but. I think Trump will walk away soon claiming victory when actually not a lot will have changed apart from a lot of bombing of Iran and economic damage accross the world.

Yes. The yes men behind his said Iran would be like Venezuela but it's a huge difference!

Trumpy will claim all his goals were achieved but they won't be, the region will be more unstable, and he'll walk away

I agree on the USA being soft on Russia, but then Putin is a mate of Trump's so it's hardly surprising.

Instead of relying on the Gulf states (or the North Sea) for oil, we need to wean ourselves off fossil fuels for our energy needs. Invest in more wind and solar and tidal farms and we could be self sufficient in a very short time
I really don’t understand why there’s so much national resistance to this idea? Energy security will always be top of the national interest, and what a better way to do that than “grow our own”!
Not only would it give us stability. Prices would be cheaper, air quality would be better and the oil producing despots around the world would be finished!!
Wind turbines and solar farms in suitable locations are a tiny price to achieve that.

We swapped our oil boiler for a heat pump a few years ago because I was fed up with the constant rollercoaster of oil prices, and it’s honestly been one of the best decisions we’ve made for the house. It’s saved us a lot of money, we never have to worry about running out of oil, and we’ve been able to get rid of the big tank in the garden. Best of all, it heats the house really well and just quietly gets on with the job.

The conversation around renewables are always framed around loss and inconvenience, when really we should be weighing those up against all the new upsides.

Trump says US may strike Iran’s Kharg Island oil export hub ‘just for fun’

What a Statesman!.....

The most embarrassing thing we can do it kind of half commit and send one ship to placate him or something.

Tell him to f**k off or back him.

That one ship is protecting our asset and to a degree placating Cyprus not Trump. Trump wouldn't care if Cyprus got hit by more drones.

Our other assets are protecting other Gulf allies as well as our other bases in the region.

You would have thought that before embarking on this war Trump should have thought who gains from this war.

Israel certainly wanted it to happen and try and decimate Iran.

However perhaps they should have asked Trumps good friend Mr Putin how the war in Ukraine is going. Russia thought it would all be over in a few weeks and they would have the territory they wanted. Four years later it’s still going on and this is exactly the same in Iran. Every so often they hit an embassy or ship in the Straits. They will get missiles and drones from countries who support them.
All those young people who were slowly turning against the regime will now think again because the enemy is now the USA and Israel.
