International News War Room: Iran v USA

Looks pretty performative by Iran. Plenty of notice was given to Qatar so they could tell the Americans and no hypersonic missiles were used so they were all easy to intercept. Showmanship so they can say they retaliated and not an escalation imo.

And that would be fine if there wasn’t a senile and deranged ginger s**t gibbon sat in the Oval Office. Trump has been played like a flute by Israel, just like he’s been played by Putin. We’ll now see whether he really has the appetite for his recent pivot to global strongman or not.

Iran did the same thing after the previous US bombing there a few years back. Can't imagine Trump or Netanyahu being so restrained

well Netanyahu won't be. he still has to deflect from the corruption charges and protests locally from the families of the October hostages that he hasn't actually done enough to free them.

I give you the UK Armed Forces Minister

Pretty baffled at the number of people who think an oppressive regime widely opppsed by the majority of its people, fanatically religious, with expressed intent to destroy the uk , USA and Israel , plus conquer all infidels, should be allowed to get a nuclear bomb. There’s not hiding their intent to destroy you regardless of how kind you are on a forum

They have / had near on capability and being nice won’t stop them getting it or using it

Yes, the best way to discourage them from getting a nuclear bomb is to attack them unprovoked and stir up a hornets nest of hostility

Well the Americans told us all about Iraq's big stash of WMDs and we know how that ended, so you can probably forgive a touch of skepticism. Especially after one of the top US security officials stated just 24hrs before that there was no evidence for it, before strangely changing her mind after Trump criticism.

Does International law mean nothing now?
To be fair, Trump has made clear that 'no' it doesn't.
So the ends will justify the means I guess?

I believe most intelligence out there (aside from that claimed to be Israel's) has suggested neither have, nor near. This was very closely monitored by the US until Trump pulled out of the agreement in his last presidency saying he could negotiate a better deal (he never did).

Of course there is another fanatically religious country, with expressed intent to destroy others (including targeting medics, journalists and starving children) that does have at least 90 nuclear warheads...and yes US and Europe were very complicit in that.

There is not a lot of positives in the Middle East situation, and Western interventions, including regime change, have been entirely inflammatory failures.

Ceasefire already ‘violated’. As we were.

Trump is a f*****g idiot. But a useful one, for others who aren’t quite so stupid.

Trump going to town on CNN, called them scum

Not happy with Israel and used the f bomb! Saying Iran and Israel do not know what the f they are doing!

He seems pissed off!

But on this occasion they didn't do anything to provoke the USA into dropping bombs on them
I understand what you're saying about they didn't do anything in the immediate, but they have been sponsoring terrorism for decades and poking the bear.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

As I mentioned earlier or maybe on another thread October 7 is beginning to look like a Franz Ferdinand style event now and it's causing domino after domino to fall.

Israel is surrounded by countries that despise it and do not think it has a right to exist and operate on this paranoia and have shown they are willing to go further than almost all of the world finds acceptable.

The big worry is the chain of events leads Russia into an even more direct conflict with America. If two nuclear powers turn hot then it's been nice knowing you all.

For me the big worry is that Netanyahu is a loose cannon who ignores international law and international opinion. I can see him dropping a nuke on Iran if he wants to deflect even more from his criminality, and all the mayhem that would then ensue.

And while Israel is surrounded by countries that despise it, the hatred doesn't stem from nothing. In fact the UK carries a large amount of the blame for the method in which Israel was formed.

The UK was trying to create a solution after 6 million jews were murdered in the holocaust. Jews had been being systemically massacred across differing regions for centuries. The pogroms expelled Jewish people from eastern europe in the 1800's. The idea was to give them a homeland, I believe they were the only major religion in the world not to have a nation state. Should Germany not also shoulder a "large amount of the blame" for the holocaust? I'm not saying we are blameless I just don't understand why so many Brits are keen to criticise our own country.

The "land belongs to the natives" argument never seems to hold when we are talking about the UK, only when we discuss Israel.

Netanyahu is cut from the same cloth as Putin and the Ayatollah undoubtedly. He has gone way too far in my opinion, but I kind of understand the defensive nature some Israelis have as I can't imagine what its like to live in a country where you are surrounded by nations and peoples who mostly hate you on all sides, many of whom don't even think your country has a right to exist.

Netanyahu thinks he's acting in the interest of his country, like Putin does, but like Putin may end up weakening Russia, he may end up weaking Israel, particularly if he loses the support of America/Trump.
