I'm waiting for him to hit the big red button, drop a bomb on some probably innocent place declare a 'national emergency' use the raft of unfettered powers this allows him to keep control of the white house and declare the election null and void.

Above said in jest but with a tinge of fear that something along these lines could actually take place!

Honestly, I don't think he can (cling on to power that way, that is.....he can of course drop a bomb......).
Even in a state of national emergency, and even if martial law is declared, then the government still has to abide by the US constitution. And that is pretty clear on the subject of Presidential terms and the electoral college. He's got about another 3-4 weeks to overturn the election results in at least three states before they are officially certified. After that, there's nothing he can do.

Rather lovely, isn't it! Fox News brainwashed sections of the US population into believing that any criticism of Trump was 'fake news' propagated by socialists. Now those tactics are being turned against it by new media trying, unbelievably, to portray Fox as left wing. 'Biden is not president' they shout. What a country.

To be fair, #NotMyPresident has been trending since 2016. All that's happening now is that the other half of the country are starting to use it instead.

I am sure you are joking but he can't (of course). The 'big red button' is a myth. He could start the process in motion but there are a whole load of people who would have to agree - this was always in place in case there was a mad president likely to do something stupid. Not that that would ever be a real scenario of course...

Well he's suddenly pulled a load of troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, seemingly without telling anyone.

Trump's team going to tell us how he is going to win...

Edit: the latest from the BBC, lots of claims with no evidence although they've found votes that narrowed Biden's Georgia lead to 12k:

Oops.

The popcorn was out for this press conference and it lived up to the anticipation of the batshit craziness. Rudy Guliani quoting "My Cousin Vinny", running hair dye (again), it is a Communist plot led by a dead Venezuelan leader etc etc.

The sad thing is conspiracy nuts and Trump fanatics will believe it.

Unsurprisingly the Georgia recount confirmed a Biden win. Will be certified today iirc. And Trump's team had 3 legal defeats in the last day or so.

Could somebody PLEASE find 11,780 votes in Georgia for Mr Trump? Come on, someone's hiding them! How else could El Presidente possibly have lost that state?
Because he's a t**t and a slim majority of the US population can see that?

Did he look down the back of the sofa? If you lose something, it's normally there.

Whilst the whole post-election histrionics from the Donald have been quite amusing to watch as they fail, the fact that a huge amount of Republicans believe this nonsense is more troubling and suggests Trump or a Trump Junior might be their candidate for 2024.......

And that is why he should be impeached if these latest revelations do indeed amount to an impeachable offence. Even if he only has 2 weeks left in office, it sends exactly the right message that this kind of fraudulent behaviour from a sitting President will not be tolerated as part of the democratic process.

Even if he doesn't face impeachment, he is probably in all kinds of legal jeopardy and will probably spend a good portion of the next 4 years fighting it and trying to avoid prison and financial ruin.

That said his swivel-eyed supporters will vote for anything that chants the same mantra to them, so one of his kidult sons could well fit the bill for the next run if the GOP haven't successfully washed out the stench of Trump soon.

Republicans are in for a bumpy few years I think.

His Trump card (I thank you) is that if he or one of his offspring aren't selected as the Republican candidate for 2024, he or the kidult can threaten to run as an independent thus splitting the Republican vote and allowing Biden a clear path to a second term if he's still alive.

Agreed and that that is why GOP are in for some tough times..they either bend over for the dictator in chief or risk years in the wilderness unless they act quickly to purge the party of Trump remnants...and then focus fully on the criminality of Trumps actions ....plus air ALL their dirty washing of how bad Trumps presidency really was whilst he goes through those criminal proceedings (it would probably all come out in court papers anyway).

And it will be Harris in 2024...pretty sure of it....which gives a dems a few problems of their own (which is sad to say in the modern day, but that is where the US is, unfortunately).

It will be interesting to see which happens first...UK PM or US President of Asian heritage.....

Trumpism in the GOP is there to stay for quite a long while with the majority of the base appearing to be Trumpers rather than Republicans at the moment. I can see a split in the Party with more moderates like the Lincoln Project people leaving them.

I read an interesting article comparing Trumpism to McCarthyism and the similarities are very much there. And for the Republican Party it took them a long time to get past McCarthy fully.

I'm not convinced that they believe the nonsense (well, some probably do), but that they are deluded/locked into this version of the political game. Just as many politicians for a while now have been locked into the game where perceptions and marketing rules: being correct or true doesn't matter as much as winning the game - previously it has been Oxbridge/Ivy League lawyers and management consultants, but Trump has shared it more broadly. I think (actually more hope) that there will be a post-Trump hangover in the Republican party where the mass-hypnosis slips and they all start saying "I did what? No f*****g way. I feel a bit sick. Once this headache's passed I'll explain".

It will certainly be interesting how some Republicans deal with this - particularly absolute hypocrites and careerists such as Ted Cruz. He can only be eyeing a run in 2024 given his backing of Trump and his baseless claims. The man obviously has no pride or principals - Trump variously called him Lyin' Ted, accused his father of being an associate of Lee Harvey Oswald, questioned his Evangelical beliefs, made 'birther' accusations and insulted his wife! And yet, there he is - fully supporting the same man!

I am not sure that there will be a split in the party.
The US seems to be far more of a 2 party country than the UK.
I suspect that there will be infighting within the Republican Party ( especially if Trump or his son try and run in the next election)
