Oh, I'm sure it was - but still feels like weak negotiating to me. Dude was young and still had potential, but only scored 8 goals in the Championship the previous year. Was he really in position to dictate terms on a Premier League move last summer?

It also shows just what a weak position Ipswich were in, and other newly promoted teams, now that relegation is very, very likely. Can see the newly promoted teams having agents insisting on similar clauses this summer, going to be hard for say Sunderland to convince players to come in without it given how likely they are to go down.

It's probably not best to judge a player on one single high pressure game.

It may be a risky move, but he was one of the best centre backs on his day in league one.

Not sure that Thomas is particularly more established than either of them. A few more international caps, but that's the joy of being Welsh(ish)

Sums up the challenge. Stoke were shite. Probably down there with the worst sides we played against but it doesn’t stop them slamming several million down on a player and probably offering 2 or 3 times the wages we can. We’re very early on that journey.

I hoped we’d get him to be honest - he was right up our alley for next season. Getting a bit twitchy looking around at others being active but that’s a me problem.
