Tinpot Reading

The experience of going to MK Dons and Reading is very similar.

Sizeable and modern yet out of town stadia, lots of empty seats, a good away following from Oxford and a largely apathetic home crowd. No real songs to speak of for either side to sing at the opposition.

They’re just another club that’s reasonably close. Nothing really to suggest it’s a derby any more.

Maybe an age thing but I will always hate Reading as much as the swine.

I don't even think swine games are up to much now either personally, gives some youngsters in their best gear a chance to act hard whilst waving their arms about giving their best Danny Dyer impression

Maybe it's just modern football that is sterile and a bit tedious these days, or just me being a grumpy f*cker!

Modern football is sterile and tedious, it's definitely not just you.

You could at least pretend it wasn't all it was cracked up to be to make me feel better about missing it.

Ah don't worry. I was definitely there, but equally I almost certainly didn't make the most of it! I was 11 in 1990, so probably a bit young to get stuck in.

It does all seem to have gone slowly downhill since then. For me and humanity.

Blimey, from your posting style I though you were in your late 60s... :ROFLMAO:

Born in 78 so similar, always look at it as I was a kid for the first half of the 90s but got to enjoy the second half as a young adult, so best of both worlds. Was a great time to grow up, wouldn’t swap it for growing up now even if it would mean I would have more years left, mainly because growing up with social media ubiquitous seems horrible but also unavoidable.

Amusingly, since I’m probably the least hard person on here, I went to Elm Park in the away end with my Millwall mate. I think I went with my Grimsby mate as well to see the Mariners. I remember it as scruffy and half empty, and the Reading fans seemed apathetic.

Couldn't agree more. Great times!

Well you did use the word "curmudgeon" in a post not long ago...

Ha ha can't argue with that!

I probably post differently to how I come across in really life. Perhaps I should try and be more "authentically me" 🤢
