Chairman tiger on HMRC -OM report

Now I don’t trust tiger as much as the next fan but let’s not dismiss the good work that he has done for the club.
The U23’s is a massive thing for a club of our size and doesn’t come cheap.
The training ground is excellent and again not cheap.
He has paid for players such as Brannagan, Whyte, Sykes, Dickie and Hanson who are all assets to the football club.

Can you explain about the training ground? I do not honestly know what we are paying for there in terms of construction. Obviously not the whole thing - is it the buildings and services we will be using, a superior pitch or something else?

BMW contributed £4.9M which would cover most of it, you would think? Maybe that didn't stretch to the gold taps...

Meanwhile, Lincoln built a similar facility (one less grass pitch, no 3G pitch) for a quarter of the price!

How do Southend manage it or Blackpool in their current situation?

Does that not cover just about 80% of the clubs in Britain, winding up orders aside. The reason players will come to us is because most clubs are in a similar position. As much as I thank Eales for the first 2 years of his ownership it does not make up for the period January 2017 to his eventual sale to somebody who I did not want anywhwere near our club. If you could wish for either an owner or part owner, it would be a genuine fan. We had that opportunity and he blew it for reasons best known to himself. We have been on a downward spiral for 2 years now and my only hope is that KR can somehow hold the footballing side together and use the off field problems as a motivation tool.
Unlike others I am not too interested in anything Tiger has to say. I doubt I would believe him and just think believe it when I see it. Actions speak louder than words and I have lived by that mantra for a long time. All I read on hear is "I don't believe a word that he says", so why the rush for details. We will never know the genuine reasons behind the tax issues and the cock ups that have led to this.
One more thing that I have been thinking about is when has any club ever given anything other than football jargon. From Charlton to Spurs, Southampton to Newcastle, via Blackborn, Blackpool, Bolton and us, genuine fans know little apart from the usual crap spouted by directors, managers and players. Reading the EFL paper every player and manager was saying the exact same thing. If the club is successful fans accept it, if not we have the situation we have on this forum. Odd really I look at other forums occasionally and they are all saying the same things as us. If we had known the full details on how we were being funded by Maxwell would we have felt any guilt when Shotts lifted the League cup, or beating Arsenal to retain League 1 status. Possibly but that split second would have passed soon enough.
I do care about training grounds and developing young players in the under23s but ultimately my week end is all about the first team and winning. Sorry fot the ramble but had a rare bit of spare time.

Presumably OUFC were left to kit out their part of the training ground - internals, etc - and that would have come with a cost. But perhaps Tiger is over egging that particular puddin a little.

I would have tho

i would have thought so.
It appears to be a decent size facility with offices, a gym, changing rooms, a canteen etc.
I would think that the club would have to pay for the specifications of the building?

And costs of more staff in the kitchen, groundsmen for pitches etc our wage bill for non playing staff must be huge these days

I get the frustrations of many on here, but there does need to be a little balance sometimes.

We have the best training facilities the club has ever had. Of course this has been supported by BMW, but there is no doubt that the club has spent significant sums to turm the generic space into the specific needs of the club. This will be a long term benefit to the club and players, and is a sign of money being invested for the future rather than immediate success. This has to be a good thing.

Also, the under 23's and wider youth set up is the best we've seen at the club in generations. There are no guarantees when bringing young players in, but the desire to help develop players into the first team is something we have missed and will hopefully support the club in becoming more sustainable in the future. Once again, this is investing in the future and is also a good thing.

Now, I don't know what the original budget was and whether any unexpected costs have crept in, but when we are looking at operational loses of around £2m a year, any extra costs could be hard to swallow. That's not to excuse the missed HMRC payments or wash over the lack of forward planning, but does perhaps put some of our recent expenditure in context.

The idea that Tiger is skint or doesn't care about the future of our club simply doesn't stake up when you look at where the money is being spent. Of course we want to see bigger and better players signing for the club, but how many genuine targets have we really missed out on? Under MApp, barely a word came out of the club before a signing, but do we really think he got everyone he wanted? Of course not, no one does. The difference is that Robinson is trying to be more open, and this backfires when deals don't come off. Again, I get how this frustrates, but are we really any different than most other clubs at this level?

We have seen on Saturday that we're not a bad team, and everyone is up for the fight. We also need to put our energies into the fight to stay up and see what happens in May.

I don’t necessarily think everyone is saying he hasn’t invested they are questioning his “unexpected costs” line that seems to be rolled out every time there’s a bill due.

Again I don’t speak for everyone but as I’ve said before I don’t think he’s necessarily out to rip OUFC off I just think he’s completely incompetent and not fit to run a football club let alone one like our own and the intricacies of it.

Great that he’s invested 10% into training facilities (whether that be £100k, £200k, £300k or whatever) and possibly the same again in players but let’s also remember his initial outlay may not have been anywhere near that of previous owners. I guess you could call that shrewd business on both the part of Eales and Tiger.

Either way it will be much easier to judge these things come the first week of Feb. It’s great having a fantastic training ground and youth set up but it may mean very little come August 2019.

I will play devil's advocate here. It is all conjecture about Tiger's finances. We have no idea how much money he has or hasn't got and it is unlikely that he will tell us. I mean do we tell compete strangers how much money we have in our banks? It might to Tiger's advantage personally or financially to keep his money in Thailand. From my point of view he has invested a lot of money in the club, as has been mentioned, in players and facilities. As far as I am aware the players and staff have all been paid on time as have
suppliers and contractors. I also get the feeling that the club was in a worse state than Tiger was led to believe when he took control of it so it will take time and money to put it right. I am a half-full, positive person so let's see if my optimism is justified.

I would agree. Everything seems to be secret and nobody seems to know anything.
Maybe Tiger has bitten off more than he can chew and is getting ready to sell the club.
My Reading supporting friend wished me well with him coming in, but said he thought he was an asset stripper, not that we have much to strip

Just like any speculator Tiger bought the club with his own funds and backed himself to bring new money in for the project. He achieved stage 1 of this by persuading people with money to join the board. Stage 2 is a little trickier. He needs to convince those board members that he has a viable business plan to invest in.

Unfortunately he has yet to convince anyone that there is an actual plan. He is currently trying to make the proverbial silk purse out of a sow’s ear and no serious investor would get sucked into that. Who would want to invest money in a loss making league 1 club with no stadium currently dallying with relegation?

Now if Tiger were to secure a new opportunity in the form of a shiny new stadium with all the associated attributes then I think investors would sit up and listen. Until that time we’re going to be on life support. He hasn’t got enough of his own money to take us anywhere but he has to keep supporting us to the very minimum or run the risk of losing his investment. A poster previously said it was a hand to mouth existence and that, I think, is spot on.

To stick my positive hat on there is nothing more galvanising for players to stick together in adversity and I saw glimpses of that on Saturday against Pompey. The way Hanson flew into a few challenges (fairly I might add) shows that there is passion in abundance and tells me as a fan it’s not yet time to give up.

But, if this is the case, who’s currently negotiating with the various councils and planning departments etc? On current showing, if it’s Tiger we’ve got a long wait. But who else is there? NM? Robinson??

I assumed at least some of the new board members were here for that very task of securing this fabled new stadium.

Exactly. If there were anything much going on concerning a new stadium then you'd imagine we would have heard something - and with Tiger not even in the country, Thohir dabbling in elections elsewhere, Geike only coming over to have a snooze at matches occasionally: who is doing the negotiating, planning and meetings? As it is, we had the 'five sites' announcement that was seemingly driven more by irritation with Kassam than anything else and then a deafening silence.

I thought they had appointed specialist consultants to lead on the new Stadium side of things or have I imagined it? The company has a record of success iirc (or my imagination has run amok).

You're right, they did say that they'd appointed someone - I'd actually forgotten that. They also said it cost a million quid a year to play at the stadium and that there would be no further HMRC problems - I guess you have to take a view about what is truthful and what isn't...

Till I am proved otherwise I will not believe a word they say!
