League One Thread of Positivity

Yesterday's news, and the situation we find ourselves in is pretty grim, and understandably a lot of us are hurt, upset, angry, frustrated with the club and the owners.

Let's have a thread to try and flip this situation around and find some positives.....

1. Youth players might get a chance to step up and prove themselves this season. With no players coming in this summer, and most likely a couple likely to leave, we may well have to give first team opportunities to the likes of James Golding, Leo Snowdon, Jack Lee, Mo Massinga.

2. Hull did very well in a similar situation last season. Admittedly they were still able to sign free agents, but the situation they were in seemed to galvanise their squad, perhaps it could do the same for us.

3. We still have a good squad going into the League One season. We may sell a couple of players, but I'd imagine the majority will stay. Hopefully the likes of Mills, Emakhu, Jin Woo, Goodrham will tear it up in League One

4. Despite all of what is going on, we are still Oxford Utd, we all still love this club and will support them through thick and thin!

We have a great squad for league 1. And a chance for the youngsters to really step up to the plate to show us what they can do.

I got the chance to see the new training shirt in person on Wednesday - it's gorgeous, so I'll definitely be buying that once it's available.

Will Lankshear either still loves us, or just has a massive laundry pile waiting to be put away so that hius OUFC shirt was on top. Either way, I feel better in myself.

There is no denying that people at the top need to be held accountable for this absolute shambles that we are in right now.

I was going to post something similar to you this morning but you beat me to it…

1) this set of players showed a load of fight last season, we just fell short in terms of quality for the Championship.
2) the majority of the squad have been here for 2/3 seasons so you’d like to think there is a degree of togetherness, and that could work in our favour
3) players that were almost certainly on the way out now have another opportunity to prove themselves, and as you said above the youth team players will likely be called upon which could reap rewards and unearth some talent we perhaps wouldn’t have seen before
4) players such as Mills and BDK might be told they aren’t for sale until January, and if we are in with a fighting chance of promotion then we can add more quality then, or if we aren’t knocking on the door they will be sold in January. (Or we might sell them now if we are desperate to raise funds )
5) Ramsay will likely be shocked by the news but surely should use this as huge motivation to create a squad of togetherness and use it to his advantage, if he does well under these circumstances his stock will rise very quickly

It is surely a setback but I can’t see the club not going to the new ground.
We have plenty of good players still here. Not sure if Prelec is leaving us as mentioned elsewhere, but there will be some outgoings. bMK is likely to be gone and the money raised put towards a rebuild

I'm struggling to think of many that haven't already been covered, but:

League One football is our real level (until a stadium allows us to progress) so we'll be watching more entertaining football from an attacking perspective this season.

"Wondering in a Snowden Wonderland" will be sung on the terraces this winter.

Mrs E admitted that Ramsey is a tasty bit of eye candy, which alleviates my guilt at ogling over some of the actresses in her favourite TV show.

I'm sure more will come to mind post-breakfast coffee.

With new coaching staff coming in to join Rambo shows there is a positive or else they would not come. Also shows the manager is staying and is up for the fight. Cardiff brought loads of their youngsters through last year in this division, as they played quick attacking all out football, lets hope the U’s can do the same with an unproven manager as well.

Beat me to it. However, given @Arttel's only recently started posting on the forum, perhaps they are a younger fan and aren't aware of the relevance of that name to the club.

At OUFC, the name Rambo belongs to Gary Briggs. Nobody else.

Caffeine has kicked in now, here are some more:

We will be going into the season off the back of a proper pre-season, rather than a monsoon and lion-riding mess on the other side of the world.

We will (almost certainly) have at least 2 new kits to look forward to playing in.

We will get to watch our players wear the floral kit in pre-season.

We will get to watch actual football again soon, rather than put up with the FIFA corrupto-ball shameful shambles from across the pond.

With Mrs E now pregnant, it has been agreed I can make a few extra trips to the UK to watch more matches than I usually would do for the first half of the season, as I won't be able to make any once she's in the latter stages, and once the little kid comes along. As fans, you will all be able to bask in the glow that I bring with me to the ground.

Sorry to be negative, but this is nothing like Hull. I would love to be able to sign freebies (like Jordan Thomas, Kent and Wintle), but we can't!

Maybe it will be a good way to test out the youth players, on much smaller wages, then signing players on a higher wage.

If we do have a bad start. We can turn it round. In 2015/16 Barnsley were relegation fodder up until Christmas in league one. They ended up going up.

My positive is that the reluctance to invest in the team could be because Eric’s planning to be investing in a stadium in less than a month. Delivering us a shiny new arena where we can keep our matchday income, reduce our rent and increase our sponsorship to become a much more sustainable club than we are right now.

I’m not a younger fan, my first game was in 1963 -64 either Preston or Blackburn i went to both, which was the record attendance at the manor ground, i can remember us kids sitting on the ash around the edge of the pitch by the touch line of the beach road. With my grand dad sitting in the stands( oh times have changed) i was also in the left side London road for most games through the 70s and 80s. So yes i do know who Garry Briggs is.! I’ve lived in wales for many years now and im 70 so don’t get to to many games.So in Wales Arran is known as Rambo, that’s it short for Ramsey. Ther should be no problem having another Rambo? looking towards the future not dwelling in the past from 40 years ago.

Is it dwelling in the past, or retaining a bit of our club fanbase's culture? If in 30 years' time some fans started referring to a new manager as "Beano" I would definitely expect people to try stamp it out before it settled in.

No disrespect to your time supporting the club - you've been at it far longer than I have! It was merely the case of suggesting perhaps you were a younger fan - given the majority of our fanbase won't remember watching Rambo.
