World Cup Thomas Tuchel Named England Manager

So in 18 months Thomas Tuchel is going to win the Word Cup.
Problem. He may be the greatest manager in the world ( Not that he is ) the current crop of players are not.
As a squad I think we certainly have enough talent where it shouldn’t be seen as out of our reach to make the World Cup final. The issue has been having a manager who can get the best out of that talent.
Players like Bellingham, Saka, Rice, Foden and Kane are some of the best players England has seen in years and also some of the best throughout Europe. Throw in players such as Palmer, Walker, Stones and Ghuei then England should most definitely be in with a shout.

The benefit of having a manager such as Tuchel is that he has experience coaching and managing big players at club level, something that many past England managers didn’t.

But a lot of the managers who have won tournament didn’t have that experience?

As Tony W said it’s a very different job than club management, we have just handed a manager with zero international experience £7.5 million for 18 months work part time to try and win the World Cup.

I think like all fans we overrate our players. Saka is nippy and Foden great for Man City but Kane and Walker are ageing. As always, it'll depend on whether Tuchel can get the best out of them.

I do wonder if Tuchel's short contract was given with an idea that Howe might be available in a couple of years. Howe would do all the diplomatic stuff very well and he's certainly a good manager, though I wouldn't expect he'd do better than Southgate.
