World Cup Thomas Tuchel - England Manager

England must be a fantastic job because you don’t have the every day problems a club manager has like player’s problems home life etc,. A chairman to deal with keeping everyone happy players staff etc. you literally go round grounds watching English players preform and choosing from limited pools of players and try to build up there moral for a few days together and a month in tournaments hoping your the manager that has the rub of the green, pure luck that gets you to the final and hopefully win . English managers just haven’t had that little bit of luck needed to win a tournament. I really believe it’s an overrated job that most managers could do cause it’s money for old rope. Just need thick skin and luck end of .
Oh and don’t forget the 6million quid you get payed.

Well most managers could do it if they don't mind losing to Greece or Iceland?

Greece and Iceland are still full of players playing at the highest club levels around the world as are most international sides so no real shame in losing to them apart from expectations. Most international sides basically pick themselves within reason. The hardest part of being an international manager is telling players there not coming to a tournaments as they haven’t been picked. The rest is BS and luck

Of course the bloody woke briegade have been out in force, calling anyone who disagrees with the concept of having a non English manager a "racist".

"Oh, which English man would be feta for the job anyway?"

Well, aside from Big Sam (100% win record, obvious choice), there's another English man who would do a gouda job. Like Tuchel, he's available after Christmas, but unlike Tuchel, he comes with a great goalkeeping coach.

His ideas may be unconventional, but they certainly are cracking, and we'll win the world cup. There won't even be any close shaves.

Like Gareth, he even has a unique style. Let's just hope he doesn't accidentally wear the wrong trousers!

Forget the sky, the moon is the limit with these two!

Bloody woke brigade wouldn’t stand for it mate. They want a German do-gooder. They actually hate British dogs

International football is only relevant because the fans happen to be born in the same country as the players / are the same nationality as the players. That’s literally the only point. That’s the only reason we ‘support’ England - because we’re English. It doesn’t really make much sense, but there it is. Can a squad of men who are English beat other squads of men who are different nationalities at football, and everyone will support the ones who happen to be the same nationality as them.

When you look at it like that, it makes you realise how stupid it is having a manager who is, in fact, from a different country. It’s starting to remove literally the only point of international football.

But it’s definitely much cooler to laugh and say you don’t care, because then you aren’t on the side of the racists or the right wing press. I don’t like either of those groups, and I don’t especially like international football, but I recognise that since literally the only point of it is grouping participants by nationality, having the head, key decision maker not following that is ridiculous - for any country.

You’re missing the group, like me, who do care who manages the national team ,who can still be fiercely patriotic, but just don’t get the level of anger that’s led to the disrespect shown towards a foreign manager, some of which has been plain embarrassing. I cant wait for him to prove the doubters wrong.

I don't really disagree, but since we've already had two foreign managers I'm not sure there's any point getting too het up about it now. I guess the difference is we didn't have social media in the same way when Sven and Capello were here.

Disrespect? Hardly been an outcry has there? People pointing out that the manager of England football team should be English is not really disrespectful.

Seen far more hipsters trying to laugh at the gammons who care about that, even if they are blind to the fact that posting something like “people who care about what passport someone holds are out of touch with international football” is completely missing the point of international football.

Read again, I didn’t say there was an outcry.
The Daily Mail article was representative of the views of many, but not all of those who object to his appointment, so no, not a public outcry but an embarrassing and disrespectful article by a national newspaper.

I can't actually remember that much of a reaction when we hired Sven and Capello - but the internet was very different. I'd support a change of the rules to make managers have to qualify in the same way as players do, but we are where we are, as they say.

I remember a bit of one over Sven, but he won everyone by being a lovable gentleman playboy, Cappello got a lot of praise if I remember rightly because of his CV but unfortunately that glossed over the fact that he didn’t speak English well enough so was a bit of a disaster, the England football manager should definitely have a decent command of the language, plus he was boring both on and off the pitch.

I still don’t think there has been that much of a fuss but if we start to struggle then that will change.

I thought that was a painful watch. A couple of bits of quality won it (the pass/movement for the first goal and a quality finish from Kane) but it was the usual rather drab, slow international football we have come to expect. Tuchel had said stuff about bringing the intensity and speed of the Prem to the England team, but that wasn't really in evidence. Still, the qualifying group is of low quality, so we should qualify for the WC easily enough.

I'd rather watch Oxford any day (I hate 'international weekends')!

Job done tonight but not sure we'll win the world cup with Dan Burn and Curtis Jones. Still, early days.

That being said, from the bits I saw I thought Ezri Konsa looked tremendous tonight, both clearing up when Burn got himself into a pickle and bringing the ball out well. If he keeps playing at that level (and from all accounts, he's been doing it in the Champions League as well this season) then that's only one CB we need to find over the course of the next year (and it's possible John Stones gets himself into shape).

And if they're both still playing at this level by next summer - no-one else in the world has a striker/#10 combo as good as Kane & Bellingham.

It is entirely possible that people just have a different opinion to you rather than it being a contrivance to try and make you look racist.

The main point of any competitive and professional football match is to try and win, as far as I’m concerned. Stick within the rules, stick within the spirit of the rules. England haven’t earned the luxury of self-imposing their own imaginary rules and restrictions that make it harder to win.

He has been appointed for one tournament to win it. I don’t think anyone associated with the team can now call runner up in 2026 a success. I like that they had the nerve to do that. I think he’s on another level to Southgate as a tactician, and hope it works.

If it does, I don’t think many people will care where he’s from. Find me a Greek who laments their 2004 win under a German and I’ll find you someone that absolutely no one wants to celebrate with anyway.

This Latvia game is awful, stick it in the effing onion bag you overpaid twats! Jeez I’d rather watch Accrington v Morecambe
It's a poor watch. I have to say though, when you have teams as limited as Albania and Latvia have been, they just try to park the bus (sorry 'use a low block'!) and don't really look to get forward at all. So it is the old story of having to try and pick your way through an eleven man defence, which is never that easy. There's no space behind them to put the ball into and precious little anywhere else.

I think it is still true, however, that a team with Bellingham, Kane etc in it should be able to comfortably see off a team this poor - and they aren't doing much of a job of it really.

Those Latvian lap dancers can be quite feisty (apparently..)

Only time I have ever been to Latvia was a stag do in Riga, the hotel/hostel we stayed in had a bar which was also a lap dancing club, nodded off on the couch in the bar on the second evening, woke up to a couple of them slapping me to wake me up, they seemed pretty feisty then.
