Thohir

Said it before..."The New Manor at Bicester Village" has a certain ring to it ?

Chinese and Arabic money would be assured, AND they have just bought (Bicester Ad today) the Bicester Sports Asscn ground on Oxford road and say they don't know what they are going to do with it....

yeah, right!

Transport links also assured. M40 J9. 2 Direct rail links to London already. New (old) East West rail line currently being built with a new Expressway road running along side. Bicester Village International Airport (London Oxford) a few miles away....

Simples!

I bet you’re winning fans down in Didcot and Wantage...

Can see it already, can't see any reason if the money is there why anybody would be against that location. The ice rink at the minute looks pretty bad so it would likely be re-done at some point anyway. Big bonuses for anybody involved. Would look nice from the top of the new westgate centre.

It wouldn’t fit in with the dreaming spires skyline and for that reason it will never be sited there

Easy solution - we can just buy these from the FA. I hear there’s a bit of a sale on. 10 quid the pair..?

I wonder wether the land behind the Thornhill Park and Ride has ever been looked at as a possibility. Plenty of land, great access to motorway. Not sure who the land belongs too?60087C91-917A-48C8-9127-7B0C43ECC7C1.jpeg

I had a feeling Thohir was going to be announced today along with the finance director, going by what Tiger said last week about there being just a small hold-up due to paperwork. Hopefully next week then, so we can move on from this speculation and start finding out the roles of the directors and their plans going forward.

The 'Oxpens Road' site would be an excellent location. It is a 16.4 ha city centre brown field site. Waliking time from the Oseney Lane part of the site would only be 5-6 minuts (I have worked at the City of Oxford College and that is only 7-8 minutes). It it next to the station car park which is less than half full on Saturdays and evenings plus there us the Oxpens car park. The main sticking point may be the City Council which has previously earmarked the site for a hotel, retail, office and residential use. We would only need a small part of the site so maybe they could be made to compromise? Obviously, bus links to the park and rides would have to be in place. The new owners want to take advantage of the Oxford brand to promote the clun worldwide. There is no better site availble that could do this better.

Before Grenoble Road we had 30 years of battling local councils/planners/nimbys etc to find a suitable site for a stadium. Have things really changed that much now? I remain totally unconvinced

What a wonderful coincidence, these rich property developing types who have joined the board are looking for exactly this sort of project. Such luck!

Whilst any development will no doubt be a money spinner, would it really be enough to get our new board members juices flowing?

If memory serves, K*$$*m's Grenoble Road empire generates a steady £2-3m of profit per annum. Any city center site could, in theory, generate more £ per SqM through premium pricing. But it is a smaller area.

Assuming a similar return, isn't this return on investment relatively small fry for these particular titans of industry? A larger development out of town e.g. Bicester could prove to be more lucrative...

Agreed but then we go back to the ‘Oxford’ brand. A site located within the city of Oxford would be a lot more prestigious than one in a provincial town.

Indeed. Plus, with park and ride, you help to get around the zero parking available which is an important solution to those of us who travel in from the wider county but don’t have regular bus services.
