Someone can correct please, but can a parish council change the identity from a village to a town? I thought that would have to go to a higher authority. And how the fcuk can Yarnton become a town?

In the same way that Charlbury and Watlington became towns in Oxfordshire. Burford is small too as is Woodstock.

I don’t think population size is a factor.

If you recall the infamous "You have no authority here, Jackie Weaver" incident (Google will find you plenty of video if you don't and Wikipedia has a fascinating backstory about the parish council), the PC was so embarrassed by the whole thing that they changed the status of Handforth from village to town, so they could disassociate the [now] town council from the episode

I think those houses have been on the cards since before we actually moved to the Kassam
SODC have been opposed to it forever but, recently were "persuaded" that it was in their interest to concede. Kassam will be rubbing his hands with glee at the prospect of how it increases the value of the Ozone land.

In the initial imaginings of the South Oxford Science Village, the Kassam Stadium was an integral part of the facilities that the new residents could "enjoy".

Now they can look forward to a "full range of community facilities, such as primary and secondary schools, local centres, parks, playing pitches, sports and leisure areas, and between six and ten pitches for gypsies and travellers".

Now maybe a bit late with this post but I’m sure Middleton was calling for Kidlington to be a Towm? If I’m correct then after his statement on the fail how he would have asked for a vote from the village and he would have abstained, if so hypocritical but nothing unusual

This is Ian Middleton, hypocritical might as well be his middle name.

Also him and his cronies looking into making Yarnton a town, that opens the door to merge Yarnton with Begbrook.
Yarnbeg, Begton ?

To be fair, we have been a town since the 1200s because we were classed as a ‘market town’
It wasn’t voted in as a town by some pointless councillors!

Us locals kick off when we have people calling us a village!
