Let’s demonstrate again how Oxford fans will do more for Kidlington than FoSB ever will.

I'm not moaning at all, and don't intend to at any point.

I've merely been saying that if we want to hit the target of opening the 2028/29 season at the new ground (which is a target the club has been working towards), then by my realistic calculations (and that of various AI breakdowns that have been put on here) spades would need to be in the ground by mid-spring. I'm not saying the club has stated it won't be, but IF construction hasn't started by autumn, then logically that is a delay to the target.

The longer we go on, the more the likelihood of a ground share for at least part of the 2028/29 season. This isn't the end of the world. Nobody is to blame. The stadium team have worked their arses off to get us where we are now, and deserve the ultimate respect for that. But it would still be a delay.

It just amuses me how fervently people have been staring that we are on "bang-on target" to have the stadium built in time, when they are just as clueless as I am.

In agreement. We've had so many little delays here and there (Ferdinan-style - 1% every day) that they do sneak up on you. Whilst you could argue that they have meant that we have built a solid planning application as a result that should not result in a JR against it, it has taken time.

Also, just because AFL Architects are involved again and Brentford's stadium went up pretty quickly, you're looking at a few different factors. Theirs was built on previous industrial land. All the subterranean pipework was in place. They simply needed to build on top of it. Our patch of land is undeveloped 'virgin' land. It's wet, boggy and will take a good deal of time and resources to get it ready for building on. I'm no engineer but I have worked with geotechnical and structural engineers who will tell you there will be challenges there.

Will the stadium happen? Yes. I'm confident of it now. Will it happen in 18-24 months? At the upper end of that at best is my view.

Could our resident detectorist tell us what the implications would be if anything "interesting" archaeoligical turns up?

Brentford stadium was like a flat pack build part built off site then bolted together on site which sped the build up not sure if they will do that here

Very unlikely.
They will already have done a desk based assessment of possibility based on current records, historical maps, detecting finds, Historic Environment Record (HER) etc.
Based on that they might do an agreed % of trial trenching across the site as it is prepared, as they have over the road for the housing and opposite Grenoble Road.
If the trial trenching reveals anything it`ll be recorded, archived and that will be that.

The odds of King John`s treasure turning up in a bit of boggy woodland are pretty slim........... and in the words of Richard Buckley "If we find Richard III I`ll eat my hat"... they made him a hat of cake!

I think it'll be finished enough to play and spectate in but things like the landscaping may not be 100% done and there may be an unpainted wall or two.

We were wanting to be in in 6 months time originally.
