The Relegation Thread

Good post, maidenheadox.

I'd add that now we have had a couple of seasons in the Championship, we have to bear in mind what is required when playing there when we are recruiting.

I think we were slightly unlucky at times, in that (for example) BDK was supposed to be pretty pivotal to us and he was injured for a long time, Placheta could have made a difference in the run in - but injured, Currie being injured so Spencer had to play on the left meaning Sam Long was the right back again etc. Some players only came good too late (Emakhu), some faded badly (MPH) and some were head scratching January signings that were pretty conspicuous (Jin Woo Jeon, Makosso, Roosken and even McDonnel) by making very little contribution to the season. Add in a wage bill swollen by the likes of Dembele, Sibley, Goodwin, Kioso etc etc out on loan and some squad players making little or no contribution (Leigh, Ben Davies, Harris, Romeney) and the squad looks like a complete mess to me.

But.

It wasn't just bad luck. The squad in general was below the required standard, and we had little effective squad depth. Our subs weakened the side as often as it strengthened it. I did spend quite a lot of time watching us wondering how many of our players would get into the opposition's first team - it wasn't a large number. I think the challenge is going to be moving the dead wood off the books.

…. And avoiding signing more

Sorry if it's been asked before, but when do we lose the Championship badge in the Forum header? :(
Within days of the final play‑off – The EFL officially confirms the 24 clubs in each division (Championship, League One, League Two) for the next season. This is when the leagues are effectively “populated.”

Fair enough. I'll keep wearing my Benson-white We Are Championship t-shirt for a little while longer then.

If Bolton win the play offs you will be able to keep it on thanks to the colour scheme, he really covered all the bases.
He's actually a Fulham supporter, which is largely the same thing

Stating the obvious is what I am best at but it is not going to be easy for us next season.
You would expect that Wednesday will have a war chest, Leicester too. One (or both) of Bradford, Bolton. Then there’s Luton, Reading, Whycome? I see Peterborough have tailed off a bit which is good but it is going to be an extremely hard season.
Let’s just hope that we are well prepared this time.
