I bought this over 20 years ago and I've finally got round to investigating who The Oxford were. This is a relief halftone original print of a painting of The Oxford 1892. Think the artist was R.W.Thomas. The players are all named. No obvious goalkeeper.
Can anyone shine any light?

Keeper is second from left in the back row.
And 8 of the 12 have a 'tosh.

Great detective work! The quality of their shirts and the attention to detail in the collars demonstrated this team had wealth and was a real step up from what Headington United wore around the same time. With links to the textile industry for the Oxford Street store, I wonder if their strip may have been produced in-house?

@bdodwell You mention no obvious keeper, there wasn't in those days. Keepers wore the same kit as the outfield players. As time went on, they would be distinguished by wearing a cap, and it wasn't until the early 1900s that we saw different coloured jerseys.

They seem to be wearing their shin pads on the outside of their socks, as a cricketer would. Was this standard practice back then?

Great photo.

Thanks for this Scrongo. You are either very knowledgeable on this subject or a better Googler than I.
As The Oxford FC are not linked to The Oxford, and in fact appear to be from London, I will sell it - having spent 20 years of believing.
I still wouldn't sell it till your 100% certain.
On evidence so far it looks like it is correct .
The only connection that came remotely close of it being a Oxford team, was Oxford university. Then a dead end...

Also quite a coincidence that Headington FC was formed in 1893 and this is 1892.

Searching on the more unusual names, Cavan, Edisbury, Court:

In London 1891:

W O Edisbury, aged 20, Drapers assistant
Arthur L Cavan, 21, Drapers clerk
P? J W Court, 21, Drapers assistant
Albert E Fletcher, 23, Drapers clerk

Occupations tie in with the clothing department store.
