BBC Radio Oxford - Oxford United, The Dub - Night And Day
Our Oxford United podcast discusses two very different defeats
Thought Purkiss was being a bit of an a**e in that particular conversation and also wasn’t making much sense either.Frosty stuff between George and Purkiss today!!![]()
He did have a fair point this week. George E tweeted that they really did get onOne of my favourite ongoing things about The Dub is the real needle Purkiss has in his voice whenever Damian Batt works his way into the conversation.
He’s very erudite, interesting and his slightly more impartial viewpoint is quite important to The Dub’s formatting. But he is a salty, quite petulant character sometimes. He was the same when he played.
No it's normally excellent and they rarely argueChrist, one of the first episodes of ‘The Dub’ I’ve listened to. Is Purkiss and Elek arguing all that happens?
I agree .Thought Purkiss was being a bit of an a**e in that particular conversation and also wasn’t making much sense either.
No, stick with it. It’s superb. You get some real insight. Even if this wasn’t great episode you still get some brilliant detail (like Rowett ridiculously wanting to loan out Mills).Christ, one of the first episodes of ‘The Dub’ I’ve listened to. Is Purkiss and Elek arguing all that happens?
They talked over each other which is a shame. I imagine Robyn and Jerome looking on and shaking their heads. It was an awful episode today. Borderlined on being unlistenable. In fact, it was. I completely zoned out during their "debate" and before you know it the episode was over.
Listen to two blokes who actually get on well here, and enjoy a tight edit, occasional insights, nostalgic archive, better stats, and a silly game named after a player who you've probably never heard of.

He knows him quite well from PFA or coaching courses or playing with him can't quite remember-it's on an older edition of The Dub.I’m sure Ben purkiss has said he is mates with Bloomfield before maybe explains his views
I’m going to respectfully suggest George Elek probably doesn’t consider it his best work either! Given that podcasting and punditry forms the basis of his entire professional life.
Personally I thought it was comical. Probably could’ve been curtailed earlier. But their bickering, ex-pro vs statto nerd, fr-enemy dynamic always entertains me. I bet George walked away liking Damian Batt a whole lot more than Purkiss for the 30 minutes after they finished recording though!![]()
it's the only oxford podcast that's worth listening to; everyone has a bad day at the office.Christ, one of the first episodes of ‘The Dub’ I’ve listened to. Is Purkiss and Elek arguing all that happens?

Tend to agree. Is anyone REALLY criticising Purkiss? I’ve poked a bit of fun at him, but largely due to his general demeanour and tone (which, as I also said, I feel is quite important to the format of the pod in a wider sense). Clearly their having a prolonged squabble about essentially very little sparked a bit of conversation here and meant it wasn’t their strongest episode. But when you’re churning out a pod a week (sometimes more) they can’t all be winners!
I genuinely find his dynamic with George Elek one of the most fun things about The Dub.
(Not as fun as how grumpy he gets when Damian Batt or Chris Wilder being successful comes up though)
