General The Championship - What to Expect

More than double what we spent last season:

In percentage terms:

Not sure of the accuracy of the data, but according to this, on transfer and agent fees, we spent £3.85m. The next lowest were Preston and Watford with £4.9m.

Gives a little more perspective of how big the gap is between us and other clubs, especially when these are adding to existing Championship squads whilst we were building from scratch.

I appreciate that playing budgets also include wages and loan fees, and I think that we were more competitive than this suggests.

On this basis, I think 15th will be an excellent finishing position and one we should be targeting. That would give us a real platform to build on in the summer, and I expect us to spend much more as a consequence.

I'd hope we could knock around at Bristol City level on £8/10m spending-might take a few seasons though to make it count

Hull spent £26.8 million to be in a relegation battle and then you have Luton who have spent £26.9 million to get relegated!
As @Scotchegg says, it puts it into perspective of what we are up against this season. Staying up after finishing 5th in League 1 and spending a minimal amount on the squad will be an excellent achievement.

Lack of imagination for MOTY

Agree, this list is a little unsurprising and unimaginative. It is hard to directly argue against any of the four necessarily but it does overlook the job someone like Manning at Bristol (urgh) or Cleverly at Watford (they were absolute chaos before the season started) have done. Eustace has arguably had a super season across both Blackburn and Derby’s recent resurgence too. Is Farke or Parker getting THOSE Leeds/Burnley squads, with such astonishing resources for the level, into the top two really more of an accomplishment?

(Even some of the mid-season appointments - ie Lampard at Coventry and Rowett at Oxford have arguably done phenomenal jobs considering where those clubs were at the time of recruitment)
