General The Championship - What to Expect

Completely forgot about that trophy thing. To be honest I’m surprised we didn’t put our under 21 squad in it.

It’s a shame you don’t get reserve matches anymore. Some of our players would definitely benefit from game time to get their match fitness up. Maybe we will get a few more matches at the training ground to help with this?

The first year they allowed the U21 teams into the Tinpot Trophy, most of the big Premier League clubs were sceptical and didn't bother. So the likes of Reading, Stoke, Sunderland, Blackburn & Middlesborough took part.

Not any more - this year, it's 15 out of the 17 PL survivors from last season, plus Leicester.
(the exceptions are Bournemouth - who don't have a Category 1 academy, indeed they only went up to Category 2 last year - and Brentford, who closed their academy in 2016 and only opened it up again last year, albeit they've already jumped to Category 2)

So if we wanted to join in with our U21s, we'd likely have to a) Get promoted to the PL, and b) Get our academy improved from Category 3 to 1.

Work to do!

Me too

Were not PL , plus our academy is cat 3 , I think, I m not certain ( rules were strange in pizza trophy) but don't U21s have to be cat 1 or something?

Matches at the training ground would be good to go n watch , Im with you on that

Don't forget the boycott!

We shouldn't encourage that sort of thing!

My statement that we should have been asked to put an under 21 team in the tin pot trophy was very much tongue in cheek.

I’m sure behind closed door matches would definitely benefit a lot of clubs so it’s something that I can see happening hopefully.

Re our academy status, I know we were looking to update the training ground with an indoor dome with an artificial surface to replace the current 3G cages at the back of the training ground but that has gone very quiet

Not saying it could be a tough season, but we only feature in two of these top stats after two games.
Sam Long with 3rd most clearances
Jamie Cumming with 2nd most saves

A lot of this was Coventry. Both were far less busy against Norwich. Small sample size.

Or you could say that at the current moment, 16 teams are below us in the table! I suggest stats based on 2 games are not really very useful...

See Wilder has called Leeds a top 6 club in the country and bigger than Sheff U because they share a city unlike Leeds which has to be mind games as they have spent about half their history outside of the top flight let alone in the top 6 and haven’t won anymore than either Sheffield side.

Does anybody else have to double check when they show the live league table on tv that your not imagining it little Oxford 10th in the championship. I still have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not imagining it
We're not little, just been screwed over for a long time. We're finally back to where we were when I first started following. Seems about right to me.

In my years of watching Oxford this is the first in the championship for me it’s crazy being in the same league as some of these teams , I’m more used to league 2 league 1 national league premier lol

I remember us being quite comfortably in this sort of position under Brian Horton and it seemed perfectly normal. But we are little in comparison with most around us.

Yes, know where you’re coming from. My first games were Scunthorpe and Exeter, but then very quickly it was Leeds and Blackburn, then Liverpool and Everton. When we went down I thought Division Two would be our level, didn’t think I’d be going to places like Grays or Ebbsfleet. I think our view of clubs is heavily influenced by what seems ‘normal’ when we first start following.

That why us oldies are so damn ugly. When we were fight it out with Pompey as to who would get promoted to the First Division as champions and then storming to Milk Cup glory we were smashing ourselves in the face with a bloody crowbar!
