General The Board & Senior Management

Certainly well connected. I like that he was rumoured to have sent a delegation to Oxford to get the S106 moving again.

The good news to take from that photo is him being friendly with Infantino, maybe second bottom will mysteriously not be in the relegation zone this season after FIFA step in.

What do we think the new COO's brief will be, whenever they start?is it just focusing on the new ground or us it all over the club?

as others have said, any idea when this new COO starts I believe March was stated but got they’ve got a lot of sorting out to do…

The COO should be steering the overall strategy. We clearly have a strategy for the stadium, however, my fear is that this has been the central focus for the board and we are lacking a clear focus on the footballing side.
  1. The last 3 managerial/head coach appointments don't appear to follow a defined character/footballing style. The sacking of Rowett without having a replacement lined up shows that there isn't any forward planning (succession planning).
  2. Recruitment doesn't seem to fit the needs of the situation. I think the recruitment team do have a strategy and profile of the type of player they want, however, this doesnt always fit what is needed by the head coach at that point of time. I am sure we have increased our playing budget considerably over the last 2 years, however, i am not sure its been spent on the right players.
Surely bringing together the head coach, playing style, recruitment strategies is the job of the Head of football operations? If so, then hopefully the board and new COO are being critical of this role.

I think we need a genuine , defined, DoF - not the head of recruitment doubling up in the role, DoF should, IMO , be a stand alone role in its own right.

Her role will be focussing just on the stadium side of things.
John Clarke replacement.

Nothing to do with the football side of things at all

To be fair, Sarge - we don't have people doubling up. Waldron is our Head of Football Operations (de facto, the DoF). Scott Mitchell is the Head of Recruitment.

The problem is that Waldron has been promoted beyond his (current) abilities, and he doesn't seem capable of lining up the activities of the recruitment team with the needs of the management team, as a good DoF should be doing.

Promoted beyond the level of his incompetence (EW) IMO

I can't thank Jon Clarke enough for getting the stadium approved but the tribal football fan in me is a little offended he left us to join another club in Southampton.
Massive stadium redevelopment project at a club that should be knocking on the door of the Premier League... fair play to him I say.
